This is the woman the US corporate media are hailing as a “star is born” – the new US vice-presidential candidate from the Republican party.
This from an AP report:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”…
Palin asked the students to pray for the troops in Iraq, and noted that her eldest son, Track, was expected to be deployed there.
“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”
What utter rubbish. She should look up her bible.
When the Romans came to arrest Jesus, Peter drew out his sword to save Jesus, but Jesus admonished him.
This is from Matthew Chapter 26:
Then they came forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.
51 And suddenly, one of the followers of Jesus grasped his sword and drew it; he struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his ear.
52 Jesus then said, ‘Put your sword back, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.’
Clearly Jesus was against the use of violence even when his own life was in extreme danger. It’s amazing how some people can use Christianity to justify their war-mongering. Next thing she will be saying is that it’s God’s will for the United States to occupy Iraq and control its oil wealth while creating a situation that has led to the loss of over a million Iraqi lives.
This is what you get from the Republicans. Rubbish! Utter rubbish! GWB used to parrot the same after being coached by his neo-con mentors. So now we have vice-president nominee who does the same. She can’t even manage to bring up her children properly, so how is she going to help McCain in the affairs of the state. Or is ok now in the US to be a teenage unwed mother? What’s happening to the great country that we used to admire?

Anil, justification for violence is aplenty in the Bible. Just look into the Old Testament where Yahweh himself ordered entire village to be killed, men, women, children, animals. The OT is soaked with and in blood. The Bible does say that God does not change. Therefore the violent God of the OT does not change.
Like many, you are reading selective passages from the Bible and usually those lovey-dovey parts to drive home the lame point that the God of the Bible is gentle and loving. In my view, he is by and large not.
You must be honest enough to read from other parts. And it is full of contradictions, does it not? In fact, the Bible is positively schizophrenic.
Palin is not a weird one-off religions cuckoo. A whole swathe of decent ordinary Christians in the US do truly and sincerely believe what Palin believes. And the basis of their beliefs are well founded in the Bible.
My opinion – the 3 monotheistic religions of the world are fundamentally flawed and rotten in the core. It is this flaw and rot that has been festering strife, discord, violence, deaths for hundreds of years.
Please spare me the hackneyed öh, it is the believers that give religion the bad name.
No, it is not. It is the schizophrenia found in all the Books.

What else can you expect from a country bumpkin who can’t even keep her own house in order as in letting her 16 years old daughter get knocked up.
And may God have mercy on us all if this simpleton ever comes into power as V.P.

Credit where it’s due [Mark Steyn]
I would like to thank the US media for doing such a grand job this last week of lowering expectations by portraying Governor Palin – whoops, I mean Hick-Burg Mayor Palin – as a hillbilly know-nothing permapregnant ditz, half of whose 27 kids are the spawn of a stump-toothed uncle who hasn’t worked since he was an extra in Deliverance.
How’s that narrative holding up, geniuses? Almost as good as your “devoted husband John Edwards” routine?
I trust even now Maureen Dowd is working on a hilarious new column mocking proposed names for the Governor’s first grandchild. Perhaps Richard Cohen can just take the week off and they can rerun his insightful analysis comparing the Palin nomination to Caligula making his horse a consul. Whereas we sophisticates all know that if McCain were as smart as Obama he’d have nominated a dead horse to be his consul. No wait…

Aside from an overall excellent speech, Sarah also had a few brilliant lines, aided by the fact that she delivered them well. For example, this whole anti-Obama riff worked well:
This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word “victory” except when he’s talking about his own campaign. But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed … when the roar of the crowd fades away … when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot – what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer is to make government bigger … take more of your money … give you more orders from Washington … and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world. America needs more energy … our opponent is against producing it.
Victory in Iraq is finally in sight … he wants to forfeit.
But this was my favorite pair of lines, akin in rhythm and content to Kennedy’s famous “As not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”:
In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers.
And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.

>>now she is saying that we went into Iraq on a a “task that is from God.”>>
Many religious people see _all_ of life…all of their responsibilities … as a task that is from God. It doesn’t mean that they believe that “God sent me to do this thing for the world”, it just means that there’s work to be done, and it’s my duty to _get_ it done. Every deed they do is doing God’s work.

“loss of over a million Iraqi lives.”
Lancet figures since dismissed. Casualties are less than those during Saddam Regime and not caused by the US but by moslem fanatics and criminals released from prisons by Baath party.

war can never be justified but for time immemorial, rulers throughout the world were recorded to use the name of god to justify an action so that the followers will march on without questioning, blind faith. i have always believed that religion is a tool used by the powerful to control the people. leaders use them. we even see it happened here recently with all the sumpahs.
however, during the height of the iraq war, when i seemed alone in attacking bush and his neohawks at bungaraya forum, i realised a thing or two why there are malaysians who supported the war on iraq. it wasn’t because they were ignorant to the facts laid bare as to why oil was the reason. i wrote this piece back then – http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/861927/posts
what shocked me as to why they supported the war was simply because of it’s ‘us against them’. as a hint, look at how umno has been treating the ‘others’ in its racist policy so much so that the resentment is so high tht these people supported the iraq war out of frustration … and a pleasure just to be on the other side, the winning side!
religion divides.
btw i’m an atheist

USA way of Jihad I presume. Just like our Sharizat called the P.Pauh by Election Jihad. Some leaders speak thru their A…H…
Iraq War, It’s totally military offence, base on their Military inteligent & strategy. The President feels thats the way to handle the US security after 911. Let it be that way.
Beloved Pope John Paul never bless the act.
Mahatma Gandhi said ” I like Christianity But not Christians”.
All religion are beautiful & acceptable, but when the people raise war & kill in the of God & religion, the image of the religion tarnished. So leaders note, you are not secretary to God to come up with these sort of statements.

I have posted my comment elsewhere about the Yankees’ brains when it comes to religion:
What a contradiction, these Yankees. Despite their worldly progress, when it comes to “spiritual” awareness, they have pea-size brain (or mind?), if at all.

And what does the Bible say about those who use the name of God in vain?
While there are lots of level-headed, sensible Americans, there are also many who think they are simply better than all the other peasants. Super-power with the mightiest armed forces, no less. Policeman and self-appointed leader of the free world.
And this Vice-President wannabe is apparently not shy of applying the divine seal of approval when she feels like it.
Unfortunately, I think there will be many in her audience who applauded. Not only those hard-core party loyalists who applaud regardless, but many who truly believed what Palin said to be true and right.

Looks like they’ve not learned anything! I hate it when the name of GOd is used to justify a war, especially the Iraq War. I’m sure many by now realise that the war was only fought to secure the oil fields of Iraq!

it will depend on which section of the bible she is refering to.the bible is written by human[although claimed to be God inspired] thus the imperfection of it.and most importantly is the nature of the person reading it.

The war drums
The politicians’ ways of foolishness
Mixing politics and God
The two shall not be at par
God decides and disposes
What else the children need to do?
Going to war on others
Saying it is the willed of God
So God encouraging killing amongst His children
To test who are the best in His kingdom?
Do ‘jihad’ on yourself
Destroy your sins make it new
Don’t go killing others
Serving the narrow minded wills
Politicians and God
One tries to justify its power
One will say follow my rule
Where paradise awaits you
Just remember here
Our lives on Earth is fixed on certain years
Even the planet evolves for a fixed circulation
When the time has come
God will take it all back
So it is better to talk peace
Amongst races and bridge the religious divide
Else it will be the end of our time
With His hands he can crush all of us
Into no where land

TJ, what Anil said is absolutely correct, from a Christian perspective. The OT represents the Judaic view but Christianity, which was born out of Judaism, is best described in the NT and it overrules the OT viewpoint unless you are a Jew! Most Muslims have problems when they read the Bible. They tend to prefer the OT as it seems vaguely familiar to them

God! don’t even go there with Republican. They think they own Christianity…. They are bunch of hypocrites if you still haven’t realize that. Bush politicise Christianity like it belongs to the Republican party during his campaign. So, I usually ignore them because if they go this route again the US public will punish them….
Hopefully rakyat Malaysian will do the same to UMNO….

Fairdinkum ,
well just sit and think for a minute, what would have happened if the jihad joe’s are seen running freely in this world. Would you have this comfort to write your mind, they will rip you apart without compassion. For these are the devils creation that is waiting like a vulture to strike into your mind and soul. For a good start Sarah Palin is right by all means for they have had the brunt of it, very severly too 9/11. An eye for an eye.
