In their last-ditch bid to save their village, Kg Buah Pala villagers have now turned to Umno.

Gelugor Umno division chairman Omar Faudzar has reportedly agreed to hold talks with the developer (Nusmetro) and the landowner (the Koperasi) on Tuesday.

With this, the Buah Pala villagers have now tried almost every avenue available to them – the Pakatan state government, Hindraf, MIC, PSM, Jerit, the Malaysian Makkal Sakthi Party, the Federal Court, the DPM and now Umno – as they struggle against all odds to save their village. The only parties they have not approached – as far as I know – are Gerakan (Koh Tsu Koon) and MCA.

In a way, the Kg Buah Pala saga has now come full circle. It was the BN government in Penang that approved the sale of the land (with the final payment made on 14 March 2008, after the Pakatan took over, while the temporary land title was registered on 27 March 2008).

Can the Buah Pala village be saved from demolition? Will Umno and the BN make a dramatic gesture and intervene in an attempt to recover lost Indian Malaysian support for the BN?

Meanwhile, the Koperasi has ceased updating its blog since 11 August.

The village has nine days to go before it is due for demolition.

  1. People who had lived there had already been given compensation and have moved out . Those who live there now are people taking advantage of the situation to get some sort of compensation . The secretary who makes the most noise does not even live there . Inspite of being offered 1/2 million worth of property , they are very silly to reject it . I feel they should just bulldoze the village n go on with the development . All of you out there who don’t know the real story are just getting excited for no reason and imagine all the time wasted by the CM entertaining these jokers instead of concentrating on more serious affairs in the state

  2. The cooperative which owned the land (allegedly) has close connection with UMNO and the villagers of KBP went to UMNO for help. It is like digging own grave and lie in it. Stupidity of these people knows no boundary. When are these people going to wake up. What say Uthaya and Hindraf about UMNO? Can they even be in same team?

The state government tried to help but were disregarded…

Good luck KBP villagers, I hope UMNO performs miracles for you.

  3. It was Barisan which sold the land. Barisan refused to help. Now Barisan is back to help the residents….

No different from a scene I saw a few months ago when one Chinese woman cried on getting her taxi permit from this UMNO (guy). This poor Chinese woman taxi diver finally got the own taxi permit after donkey years and now she to … the very (guy) who (allegedly) denied her her permits for 10 years. … now she got to thank this (guy). How sad.

  4. Aiya, just ignore this Fatimah la! She is talking nonsense.
KBP did the right thing. As lGE said they are turning to the same people who rob them for help.
Let us hope the villagers can get a 3000sq ft house as demanded !
Or better still return them their land.
    Best of LUCK to KBP!!!

  6. You can try. They will promise you. Wait until the by-election is over then the reality will bite.

I am not sad nor do i feel anything. In fact i don’t give a damn for this villagers anymore. Greedy bunch…

p/s: As an Indian, for me there’s nothing that remotely resembles Indian culture there. Whatever they celebrate-’Valaikapu’, ‘ponggal’, etc etc is celebrated elsewhere in the nation and in a much grander scale as well. What the heck they don’t even have a temple. Stop trying to hoodwink us coz we are not stupid~

  7. He who created the mess should come to save these families. Good. You did the job, you flush it clean. Don’t leave it to the present state government. The people know the political game here. I bet you, the most the developer could do is to honour what was decided earlier i.e to offer them a double storey terrace house to each of the 24 families. Nothing more. The developer is not going to give the land to the residents with the help of UMNO. Pakatan will not lose Indiatn votes. They may lose 24 votes because of this issue. Why UMNO? Where is Gerakan? Sudah cuci tangan? UMNO and Gerakan should come to help these residents in Kg Buah Pala. Pakatan government did not create the problem. They did it, so be responsible. To all Penangites LGE is a great leader. He does not have to go back to Melaka. The people of Penang wants him here. Gerakan will be wiped out in the next GE. PAS and PKR will get the Malay votes. DAP will get the Chinese votes. PAKATAN as a whole will get at least 71 percent of the votes in Penang to continue governing the state. GREAT.

  9. earlier in the game, i wondered if the main goal of all the … stirrers keeping the flames going were really there to just ensure this case gets BIG and stays HUGE! apart from the few who were sincerely there to help, i felt most had their own agendas n i didn’t know what.

in a moment of humor, i wondered if its to get publicity n such a build up, that when whoever comes to save the day will be immortalised as a hero! that is, this was intentionally allowed to brew. i thot it was rather silly for gerakan, since coming in at the last minute didnt prove anything n most would complain they should’ve stepped up earlier. i wondered if najib/muhyiddin wanted to reinforce their image as leaders of 1malaysia. but OF COURSE, neither above would be as effective as getting UMNO to “prove” that they are “relevant for all races” n that they are sympathetic to all! this is an intelligent plot indeed…

to top that up, in the final days of this plan, they seed ppl like “Fahtimah Zuhri” to create enough noisy propaganda n throw in words like “Lim Dynasty” so that hopefully a few of the less knowing might start to question. he/she even intentionally throws in words like “makkal sakthi” to deflect suspicion. nothing that Fatimah has said in reply to recent posts marks him/her as someone who believes in makkal sakthi, and in fact quite the opposite.

so, Fahtimah, does it pay well to be part of najib’s PR team? perhaps in your next post you can drop hints about whether this means KBP will stay…

  10. Let’s be realistic here. If they are willing to listen, it isn’t going to be driven by compassion; merely, the need to humiliate DAP & LGE. So ultimately, credit is to LGE. If LGE really washed his hand completely off the whole affair and with the general public fast becoming unsympathetic, it is like going after spilled milk. Methinks, they should have taken up LGE initial offer. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

  12. For the record, LGE was jailed for fighting a malay girl rights. The sale was made and sealed legally by the previous govt.

The state has made the best effort by getting the KBP residents a double storey house. I wonder if they will get a PPRT home should BN rules!

Looks like the LGE admin is cleaning the BN’s…

  14. oh, c’mon guys, why even bother to reply to what this fatimah zhuri was saying as clearly he, and i would not even say she, (sounds like) an UMNO guy and clearly his statement is idiotic, childish and downright STUPID. why bother, really.

As for the Kg Pala residence, I am sure the door is not close to u as LGE will still entertain u guys if all of u have the sincerities to accept the offer but if u guys are still adamant with your demand, yes, by all means, go to UMNO, MIC or GERAKAN whatever whichever cause in the 1st place in the earliest instances u guys should have headed in that directions if that is what that demand has been all along as it was them who signed, sealed and delivered your land deal in the 1st place. so surely they can also hand back the land to u guys if they wanted to anyway. clearly u guys have been playing the wrong card all along and now after all the dramas, u finally heading that way but its a little too late when it comes to dignity and respect cause to the majority of the M’sian, u clearly have lost that and now if u want to deal with (Umno)… then u will be (like them) too and would i be surprised if (they) agreed to your demand, nope, cause (they) have the money and power to do just that to help its cause to stay in power but remember this, penang stays with PR no matter what and the political tsunami will still prevail and ANWAR is still the man.

    Cheers!

  15. Empathy is good.. but, This issue wont effect PR in large scale as some people think.. 9/10 Indians outside Penang feel that the residents pushed their luck too far.. Its all the drama of the politicians. All parties including PR.

In fact, the villagers are screwed… by the HINDRAF & MIC in this issue by instigating them to demand more..

  17. Wow

UMNO to talk to the developer?
UMNO will prove that it can go against court orders?
That will be good eye opener for the rakyat, as to where the law is and where UMNO is!

    But developer will listen?
The villagers will get back their land and the developer will call off the project?
Fatimah Zuhri will mediate as well with UMNO?

This fellow Uthayakumar allowing UMNO to take over the credit? Aiyo…then what lah for him? No more modal lah to prop his image? Saya tak PAHAM.

Thiruvengadam from Selangor…where are you? You should not let UMNO take the limelight away from you?
You travelled from Selangor to inspire the villagers to this stage. Your efforts should not go wasted. You already posed for the photgraph which is all over the blogs…so caring and concerned…featured in the photo with Uthayakumar and the villagers lawyer..after the court threw out the appeal on Friday. You should continue with your crusade of giving more ideas to the people. How about asking the villagers to speak to Chin Peng? Or the East Malaysian political parties? Sorry…forgot Samy Vellu. Include him as well. After all you were from that party before?

  18. Fatimah,
Either your are dumb or you don’t know the story behind KBP. How can you blame a government that is just over a year old in comparison to one that had been in control for the past 50 years? What you are saying saying is like “Blame the one who dresses sexy instead of the rapist.” Duh…………

  19. Villagers have been (mis)led to a garden path by political opportunist whose sole aim is to politically profit from the land issue.

The initial Fed Crt ruling is to grant vacant possession to the owner and developer and ordered the villagers to vacate without any compensation. The land itself was alienated to the present owner by none other than the BN Gomen.

In came the PR gov’t and in the face of the Fed Crt ruling negotiated for a compensation for the villagers in the form of a double storey house. Alas the villagers were misled into rejecting it.

They now turn to Umno, (who allowed) the original land (grabbers), for help. life is indeed veru queer.

  20. UMNO will ask the villagers of Kampung Buah Pala to approach Gerakan, especially the backdoor listed and people rejected “UNPERFORMANCE” minister for a solution. On the spot, a decision will be given by Gerakan “Ya Botol” minister because this is the only means and ways left for BN to recapture the Penang State Government, which fell to PR on 308. So, the good news is awaiting.

  21. Mr Uthayakumar, you should take the blame as well for this fiasco.

You said that the BN, UMNO and PR have played out the villagers.

Now you let them go back to UMNO.

Why are you playing with the lives of the villagers.

So what happens to the visit to Heritage Trust office in UK?

Nothing so far from them on this. You told them that this is urgent?

Instead of going back to UMNO to handle this case, why not get the villagers to consider fresh alternatives?

You have let down the people of Kg Buah Pala.
    This is very mean.

  22. The end finally arrives
High Chaparral residents facing the gloom
    The devil of yesteryears
    They gave them power

    The years down the route
    They took away wealth
    Saying it was for developments
The general good of the State

    Change hands of titles
    In secret without telling why
Now they found out the hard truth
They are squatters asking for rights

Now at the weakest point to negotiate
High Chaparral residents no standing to gain
Federal Court had ruled effectively shut them out
Only tears and emotional distresses ring in the air

Years ago the land was alienated
They didn’t fight hard; they kept postponing
Voting for the devil until it is finally lost
Now they turned to the devil……….
They smile “Welcome and you will be gone”

The flock turning into the desperate mode
    Blaming others not themselves
    Don’t point finger at LGE
He tried his ways to ease your burden
But greed forced you folks to turn away

It is better to get something now
Fight for another day unearth new evidence
Now they get nothing running desperately to the devil
It is the devil who turned it upside down

The footprints will be in memory
    How complacency makes one loses
Living on the land never want to protect
Believing it is belonging to you
    TOL can be taken away….

  23. Fatima, you are talking senget. As head of state, LGE has to be firm. The truth is always the truth. There’s no two ways about it. The KBP residents can’t proof that they are the land owner and also the court rules against them. As TOL holders, they are lucky LGE negotiated with the developers for a DOUBLE STOREY house + a land for worshiping… How many Penangites can afford a double storey house??? I bet you are not from Malacca, so go to Malacca & find out for yourself about LGE.

  24. What is wrong for the villagers to try this effort because the people they elected (LGE) have given up trying to resolve their issue (the crux remains the land involved is an (alleged) scam, said no less than by LGE himself).

Now after all LGE broken promises to investigate and take action against the guilty parties. What choices are available to them?

So what you expect the villagers to do…… roll over and play dead. Will you ? if you are in their shoes. The villagers owe us nothing , so stop taking pot shots and demonizing them.

But if you had believed what LGE said that the land deal was an (alleged) scam and he was going to take actions , then my conscious say you are as me very ashamed of LGE. The villagers are owed an apology for (alleged) unfulfilled promises by LGE instead of clouding the issue by dragging all the other parties. LGE is the CM of Penang and the villagers are his constituents. the bucks stops at LGE office.
