So it’s going to be a straight contest between BN’s Mohd Isa Samad and Zulkefly Mohd Omar of Pas, after the independent candidate failed to find a local seconder.
Malaysiakini reports that the BN and Pakatan crowds were about equally matched, with the BN side thinning out towards the end.
But one eye-witness claims the Pakatan side outnumbered the BN supporters by about five to ten times during a wet morning in Bagan Pinang. The FRU and police kept both sides apart while choppers hovered overhead as usual.
“It must have been demoralising for the BN side.”
A timid group of “Makkal Sakthi supporters” (in BN colours) tried to wade through the Pakatan crowd to get to the BN side but Pas Youth members forced them back amidst much heckling and shouting.
Judging by the respective turnouts, which would give Pakatan the edge, in the end, much would depend on the “postal voters” – and of course the money being spashed around.
If you were there, perhaps you could share your impressions of nomination day in the comments below or tell us what you think of the by-election as a whole.
On a fair fight , Pakatan will triumph.
Somehow in this situation , its a surewin for BEEANT.

I feel very strange that every time there is election or by-election, PR supporters will claim that there is unfair fight between them and BN. If that is the case, how come PR can win many by-elections and also capture some states in GE12? Stop talking nonsense as this blog prefect will axe your comment. Anyway, if PR win in this Bagan Pinang by-election, I will stop commenting in this blog.

BN always (allegedly) giving out cash…contracts…ang pao…green pao….using all MSM..using dirty tactics..etc..during election or by election. Ask yourself is this fair????? Whether PR win or lost is another mater.
Hello think! Don’t just blindly support your party!! There are so many corrupted and racist leaders in BN but yet U still support them!! I just cannot understand why!!!!

Why I support BN:
1)Economy is OK. There is plenty employment opportunities. Do not believe statement from PR media. Please get a copy of TheStar and you will find many job vacancies available. This is a fact.
2)No fear of Islamic state. Do you know PAS 100% certain will push for Islamic state after forming federal government.
3)No beer ban. In Selangor efforts have been carried out to ban beer. I wonder what next?…

(1) Economy will be much better without BN consider we have so much natural resources. Our economy might be in the same lead as Hong Kong.. Singapore..Korea…
(2) PAS will not be able to push for Islamic state. How many MP they have? Go and count yourself and read RPK articles.
(3) They will not be able to ban beer 100%. You still be able to have beer even in Dubai, Saudi Arabia 100% muslim country. MAS airline…beer factory…pub…etc will have to close. It is impossible to do that. Anyway drinking too much beer is not good for your health!
If we have good goverment and manage the country properly… maybe we will able to afford free education to University…free healthcare…free toll…etc….
Go and read RPK articles. He said certain group … are just so stupid!!! Go and figures out!!!

1)For Hong Kong, it is part of economy giant China. Thus it is no doubt that China will ensure Hong Kong never left behind in any economic activities. Do you know that, China like our local contractor just sub-contract works to Hong Kong for sake of political reason?
2)Yes for now PAS do not have enough MP. But now PAS is expanding its base nationwide instead of just concentrating in Kelantan and Terengganu. In next GE, are you sure PAS will win less MP than DAP & PKR if people like you just blindly support PAS?
3)RPK is PR apologist. His comment purely of spin type that with solely purpose to influence the mind of people like you to support PR blindly. How many criminal charges has RPK faced until he run away from court proceesing? Secondly, in Selangor you will find out that convenient stores in muslim majority area already without beer at its fridge. Beer ban already implemented regionally without your knowledge. Such “malay majority” concept by PAS already put into practice. It is a matter of time before this “malay majority” concept to be rolled out nationwide. I know you stay in Penang, so that you will safe from this “malay majority” concept, but why you are so selfish? Can you think other parts of Malaysia as a whole country? Also, the question of beer is bad not arising at all as this is a matter of principle of freedom. It is my freedom and right to drink beer.

To Gerakan K,
What logic is that?
Do PR’s victories imply that the elections were fair?
If I have a badminton match with Lee Chong Wei and the umpire and linesmen side me, Lee Chong Wei will still win, maybe with a smaller margin, because Lee Chong Wei is too good for me.

The postal vote is not a certainty for BN. I heard (some in) the Army (are allegedly unhappy) at the govt. Recently, the minister (replaced) the chief of staff… with an air force general. There (is apparently some) dissatisfaction with the Army folks.
This a factor BN did not consider in Bagan Pinang.

In BN, there is no need for master and slave relationship. Unlike PR, PKR’s Anwar is the big brother. When he proposes the idea of September 16 2008 to take over federal government, nobody in DAP and PAS dare to object it despite Anwar misses the deadline several times. In BN, Gerakan has equal standing with UMNO. Even Gerakan lost badly in GE12, KTK still appointed as KPI minister. This means Gerakan has a guaranteed position in BN no matter how its perform in GE. This also applies to MCA.
looes74, no need for me to make any response as this is a preplanned drama to cool down sentiments of grassroot supporters of UMNO. When facing next GE, everything will back to normal, ie seat and powersharing between BN component parties will continues. You, as supporter of PR should really worry about PAS which constantly push for Islamic state and Islamic law. Do not take everything for granted. If you buy the idea that Islamic law only applicable to muslim or only criminal should worry about hudud law then you will regretted later for pushing PAS into highest executive position in this country.
What is your stand on PAS ultimate agenda?

PKR and DAP serve as checks and balances on PAS, and PAS serves as the same counterpart balance and check on PKR and DAP. The coalition is beautifully balanced, no one can ask anything better, and is a much better example of what is a true check and balance than the pathetic state of so-called “Separation of Powers” in Malaysia.
Unfortunately, we are now suffering for the last 50 years of UMNO’s Ultimate Agenda: sucking the country dry with corruption, racism and bigotry, no matter the cost.
Gerakan K, please crawl back (where) you came from.

Please bear in mind that in case PAS has successfully turned Malaysia into an Islamic state with complete Islamic law, do expect changes to your usual lifestyle. This is a real threat to our daily life, culture, heritage and wellbeing. No matter how PR criticize BN’s policies, at least with BN they will not affect people in general directly. For example, moral policing, banning mania and the latest “malay majority” nonsense, eg ban beer on malay majority area and move temple out of malay majority area in Selangor. Honestly, I will admit that without beer, cinema, karaoke and pub, I will rather migrating to Singapore ASAP.

No one needs to mislead you, you are mislead yourself. Compared to a corrupted BN, I take my chances with PAS anytime and anyday. Because I know DAP can keep a check on PAS while no party even Gerakan cant check UMNO. I know how it works in Penang when Gerakan helmed the state. UMNO would do something and tell him later even though KTK was CM.
Gerakan is a dead party, totally irrelevant and a waste of time. The party needs to remember its roots. But it has sold out and joined Barisan. The very racist system you guys were supposed to be fighting in the first place. You said you were the conscience of BN?? What conscience? UMNO does what it likes without you guys. Gerakan has become (subservient) to its political masters. So tell me, the economy is going to the dogs, the only people who dont see it are ignorant people like you.

1) Gerakan is not the Master & Lord in Penang. Previously, they garner 13 out of 40. They can’t even contain MCA or even MIC. Not sure how
2) The leaders simply does not have any Vision & Mission of acheiving somethings. No able lieutenants & seargeants to carry out wish plans
With the Final Solution initiated by UMNO, Gerakan can roll over & die. Along with ignorant folks who blindly supporting them

To those who have read extensively about politics, the 16th September euphoria is only a mind game played by politicians. In a mind game, it can or cannot influence people into swaying their preference.
As for the Bagan Pinang by-election we can now see a healthy democracy in the country where the emergence of a 2-party system is just imminent. This is good for the people. The BN candidate is tainted and he should have decined or not allowed to stand. His candidacy is a desperate move by UMNO and will leave a bad taste among all Malaysians. BN is furtehr tarnished. The PAS candidate is perceived as a clean man. He demands a lot of respect from the people. 8 out 10 people in town prefers him to win. In some semi-urban areas it’s 7/10 for PAS. Only in a small area associated to the UMNO candidate it is 5/5. Without the postal votes PAS could easily win. The support of Chinese and Indians is for PAS. The postal votes – depending on how many will decide on who will win. If a significant portion of postal votes do not go to BN, PAS will stand a chance to win. Overall, the majority feel that PAS could still win this by-election.

Yes, BN candidate was guilty by his party but this is not criminal offence. It was just ethical issue. He has served his punishment meted out by this own party. Nevertheless, LGE is an ex-convict which court found him guilty. Why LGE was allowed to contest in GE12? What a double standard towards BN!

LGE was convicted under the printing presses and publications act (PPPA). The very act that infringed on our “Freedom of the press” in the constitution. Dr. M was able to enact the PPPA due to the dangerous 2/3 majority in parliament.
LGE fought to help a Malay girl who was allegedly raped by a senior politician. He was convicted of the PPPA and sentenced to prison.
He was released in 2001 and thus enable to enter the 2004 elections (5 year ban under law) but he was able to compete in 2008, what double standards? you guys set the law and you dont even know your own law. Your courts are the same courts that have judges appointed by connections, anybody remember Lingam? Again, you turn a blind eye. Where is the justice?
Speaking of ex-convicts, so were Gandhi,Nehru, Deng Xiaoping and many others. This is what you call prisoners of conscience, they went to jail for their beliefs and their struggles.
KTK had it easy. and what struggle do you have in Gerakan? Struggle to get contracts? I’ve personally gone to Gerakan meetings in the past as an observer, I’ve seen how $$$$ is the talk of the day.
Kinda like saying S*** the people, as long as I’m rich!

Hello Chris CK, karma did said following:
——————————–
The BN candidate is tainted and he should have decined or not allowed to stand
——————————–
My opinion is that LGE also tainted because he is ex-convict. Why PR supporters allowed LGE to stand as candidate in GE12? If you can’t anwser me this question, do not talk any nonsense. You also can’t anwser me regarding to caning in Islamic law is different from civil law. Admit your mistake and move on.

Hey Kartika is caned in the civil law or Islamic law? last I checked the Syariah Court ordered Kartika’s caning. That falls under Islamic law. Civil law doesnt have caning for beer consumption. And it happened in a BN state.
I’ve answered that.
Why PR supporters allowed LGE to stand? Look at the offences.
Offence of LGE: Protecting Malay rape victim, sentenced to jail for that under the printing presses and publications act that clearly contradicts “freedom of the press” enshrined in the constitution
Offence of Tainted BN candidates:
#1 Disbarred lawyer for taking a client’s money
#2 Guilty of money politics in party.
Money politics = corruption.
Even an idiot can see the difference….

And since you said caning under Islamic law is nothing, why do you fear the Islamic State?
Now back to the Islamic state issue that you talk about. DAP and PKR keeps PAS in check and likewise. None can form government without the other. That is check and balance.
Keep harping on the hudud, and forget the “pendatang” remark. I’m not a racist and at the same time do not enjoy being pelted with racist remarks.
Since you question hudud, let me question you, what has GERAKAN done for the non- Malays as well as the Malays? Where were they when the keris was raised? Where were they? Let me remind you on the state assembly seats in “Gerakan”‘s Penang during the 12th GE
UMNO = 15 seats
Gerakan = 13 seats
MCA = 10 seats
MIC = 2 seats
Total = 40 seats
Who’s master and who’s slave now?
You tell me…..

Chris CK, please slowly read my comment. I mean caning in Islamic law do not hurt like what caning in civil law. A cane of civil law makes a man fell unconscious, mind you. There is scar left after this civil law caning being carried out. A doctor must be present when caning is carried out. The pain caused by Islamic law caning even less than what teacher did for schoolboy punishment, you know. Please ask some malay friend about this. Secondly, an Islamic state means with full implementation of Islamic law including hudud law. Hudud law never enacted and implemented in Malaysia. Get it clear? Thirdly, do you physical hurt when keris is waved? If not what is the complaint? Some malay friend even asking why waving chinese sword is OK but it is no no for waving keris? Stop practising double standard towards Malay and BN!

Politic is not about guaranteed position. True equality also mean has a say in policy making. How much KTK could influence UMNO in term of policy making is a mystery for me. Gerakan has no equal standing with UMNO. This is a fact.

I think it is silly to mobile thousands of supporters for the nomination. What are they trying to prove ? Seeing the scenes of chaos and violence, I tend to support the EC proposal to control the number of people attending the nomination. They did not look timid that was for sure. They had a look that said,” Here we come, Get out off the way!!!! ” Now why were they made to walk through a Pakatan crowd knowing full well that they were on Pakatan Rakyat’s side of the fence ? K, were you there on nomination day? If not let me try to give you an idea why the traffic looked jammed. This was how it was organized that morning. NORTH side was BN’s supporters. SOUTH side was PR’s supporters. EAST side was the low hill slope which led to the Nomination Centre. WEST side had buildings. Right in the center between north, south, east, west was the Buffer Zone and Policemen. No traffic was allowed to go through. Traffic coming from the North and South had to make U-turn to go back to where they were coming from. I was told only 100 supporters from each candidate were allowed to follow them to the Nomination centre. The rest of us stayed below the hill slope.
