Anwar has decided to opt for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, probably after figuring out that the delay and uncertainty in neighbouring Kulim was going to be far too long.  Azizah is giving way for him, which is a pity because as president of PKR, which has the most parliamentary seats, she is the first woman Parliamentary Opposition Leader.

Anyway, they are probably looking at the larger picture, which is 16 September. They probably hope to up the political ante, before Anwar can be arrested, if it comes to that. I guess, for him, time is of the essence.

What do you think of all this?

  2. All this is a political game.

The sad thing is Wan Azizah resigning. she was a strong lady and was facing all the storms strongly and she deserves to be an MP as she was always approacable. So it is unfortunate thing she was made to resign so that anwar could contest. The first women opposition leader. she would have been the first women Prime Minister if 16 september became a reality, but before that she has resigned.

Hmm, also looks like anwar is not confident to contest in bandar Tunrazak, so going back to home ground.

  3. Another Breaking News!!!
MCA, Gerakan, MIC, SNAP and some of the MP from UMNO will jump to PR soon!
The reason is simply because they had lose confidence on the BN govt leadership!
All the Party Leader will make a Press Conference in due time!
DSAI road to Putrajaya is on track!
Change of federal govt on 16th September 2008 is still on!

  4. I think I would have preferred Anwar contesting elsewhere. It’s a shame that Wan Azizah has to give up her seat. She’s a good MP, methinks.

But hey, maybe they have a reason.

  5. Fairdinkum ,
if the malicious charges against DSAI is not dropped and the spits still go for his arrest then we know for sure that this umno monopolised bn will be sent further into the abyss. I really mean it as history has repeated itself that truth will always prevail at any cost.

  6. I’d prefer if he “takes over” the Federal Government through the most democratic means possible, if he indeed is capable of doing it. His call for MPs to defect is a no-go. To create a Parliament with razor-thin majority like that is inviting trouble, look at the Italian Parliament. And what’s to say those MPs won’t cross back, when their asking price is met? Two wrongs do not make a right. Shame though, I don’t buy much of his rhetoric but to see the first women opposition leader to give way to her husband that way, I really respect her.

  7. This shows that Anwar is only interested in gaining power and position and not representing the people. What more evidence that people wants to see before they actually realize the intentions of Anwar?

  9. Few things pop into my mind when i read the news.
    1. Losing Wan Azizah. She herself has made quite an impact and played a wonderful role in our politics. It would have been much preferred if both Anwar & Azizah are together in the Parliament.

    2. What is in-stored next for us by the government? Will they act(act what? Well this I don’t think needs any elaborations) even swiftly now since Anwar has already made his final preparations?

    3. If the by-election do take place and Anwar somehow managed to contest in it, will ‘they’ resort to dirty tactics? …

  10. Kak Wan will be an idle choice for PM. In this case DSAI will not have to rush in becoming PM even though this is what most of us are craving for. BN especially UMNO is now sinking into the abyss. We are seeing how down right dirty they can get in trying to paint the Pakatan Rakyat state governments in a bad light. You see, Umno and BN are going down therefore they will not stop hitting below the belt. They are bankrupt in ideas.

That is why I feel it is better for Kak Wan to be PM first before DSAI takes over in the near future. Should DSAI become PM any time soon, the Umno/BN … and the 4th Floor Boys will have a field day concocting all sorts of crap to discredit and destroy a PR government with DSAI as PM. With Kak Wan, there ain’t nothing these Umno/BN jabronees can conjure up that can discredit her…More http//margeemar.blogspot.com

  12. It wouldn’t really matter what his choices are in terms of seats; my bet is (“they”) would arrest him before nomination and voting takes place and use this sodomy thingy to prevent him contesting/taking up his seat.

He might even win and then be “found guilty’… to remove him from Parliament and force another by-election. In Permatang Pauh, PKR would definitely stand a better hance of keeping the seat if Anwar is later removed.

UMNO still holds a lot of cards to play, and I would expect their typical shameless Melayu Baru(a) traits to be demostrated.

  13. Dato Seri Azizah should remain as her place and let DSAI find on others. She is the president and I think it’s best if she stays on. But that’s just my opinion, I think both Dato Seri Anwar and Dato Seri Azizah have a much broader view. They might have a greater plan and this is a precautious step if anything happens.

For all the brothers and sisters at Pematang Pauh, pls vote for the good one, don’t fall on trap of BN …

    God bless both of them.

  14. Enough is enough!

The best response from Betel Nut Chronicles so far !!!!!

“Are we going to allow a 23 year old university dropout to determine the fate of 27 million Malaysians?

Or should be rally behind a 60 year old man who has been fighting for justice, equality, peace and freedom for Malaysia throughout these difficult years?

The verdict is for us to decide. Let’s untangle ourselves from this web of complacency and escape from the liars’ lair.”

  15. I take it as a nature progression for Kak Wan to take a back seat and be a simple housewife that I think she aspires most. She was indeed a victim of circumstances where she has no choice, but to fight on for Anwar, to which many wives may not succeed in facing the hardship.

So, it is time for Kak Wan to take a well deserved rest.

    Best of luck to her.

  17. I think this is okay. To have someone else reign to fit Anwar in does not sound good.

I think Wan Azizah needs some time for herself after a decade of trials and tribulations. I wish her well.

  18. I think we should advise all Malaysians to extricate ourselves from the web of lies and deceit spun by Barisan Nasional and rally behind Saudara Anwar who has been fighting hard for justice and equality all these years.

As I have written in my posting, should we let at 23 year old university dropout determine the future of 27 million Malaysians or should be give our full support for an experienced 60 year old man who wants to bring change to our country.

  20. This was what I predicted. I also posted it in my blog on June 11 citing 4 reasons.

    1. He wants to come back with a LOUD BANG! What better way to do it; of course Permatang Pauh.

    2. This will show that he goes back to his own people.

    3. No other present PKR incumbent MP needs to vacate.

    4. Wifey can take a deserving rest.

    You see? It’s a win-win-win-win scenario!!

  22. Anil
Yes it is indeed a pity Wan Azizah has to sacrifice her seat. But I think they– meaning the stragegists and advisers in the Pakatan know what thye are doing. The stupid BN people must be stumped for a while atleast before they take the next step. If everything is fair we will be seeing a Pakatan government by September 15. BUT it is not going to be that easy as we all know that the corrupt BN and its cronies will not give up that easily.

  24. Should be ok. High chance since UMNO people also support him in that constituancy.

Are you ok with husband-wife-daughter in parliament? For me, Azizah has done her part. Great job done during hard times (10/10 points). The time has come for her to change direction and give full support to the in-waiting prime minister. She should always be by Anwar’s side to realise the hope of the people. It will not be possible to do it while doing the opposition leader job.

I think she’s doing the right thing. Never underestimate the hand that rocks the cradle. I’m sure UMNO … got some headache due to this change of decision.
