A couple of different sources have alerted me to a fairly large police presence – perhaps a hundred or more – around Karpal Singh’s residence in Penang.

Riot police trucks are in the area and roads blocks have been set up around the Waterfall Road/Western Road area.

Reports blog reader tan, tanjung bunga:

I passed Karpal Singh’s residence at around 3.00 pm: lots of FRU personnel and other policemen in the vicinity of his residence, with FRU personnel also lining-up in front of his gate and dozens of media people positioned opposite the gate. You can imagine the traffic jams in the whole area!

From your post, it’s possible that the security personnel are trying to protect Karpal’s residence from the Umno demonstrators! Congrats to them then for protecting a citizen!

It is believed that Umno demonstrators have been blocked from heading towards Karpal’s residence.

It is understood that Karpal himself is not at home at this time.

Or would they then put him under ISA for his own protection!!

  5. Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and another local youth leader were picked up by the police for questioning in an aborted protest march by Penang Umno Youth against veteran parliamentarian Karpal Singh in George Town today.

  10. at least the police are doing something finally, even though it may just be to portray some good image, but i think positively that the police will improve but not its top brass. anyways, tonight i will be going to my uncle, yb karpals house just to check things out. as i have stressed, the police must be fair, ban all protest and vigils reagrdless of what is it for as it might just lead to a racial problem with a small ignition as starter. I am not meaning to further suppress the media no no way, but just temporarily until the PERAK issues are settled.

  13. Anyone arrested? Unlikely.

A few days ago on TV, I noticed one of the hooligans in the anti-Karpal demonstrations holding an (inflammatory) banner…

UMNO youths aka mat rempits aka good for nothings.
So insecure, so emotional, can’t think and act rationally…

  16. This Toyo… is an opportunist who will pick up anything to promote himself.
YB Karpal is not against the Sultan of Perak -just the decision he made -His Royal Highness has no power to dismiss MB Nizar as stated in the State Constitution only the Assembly can.Still leave it to the court to decide and finally let the people of Perak decide in a poll.REFORMASI !

  18. The issue is the PERAK STATE GOVT.

Karpal with his untimely “outburst” managed to deflect attention unto himself and create another convenient diversion for UMNO to capitalise on.

Now instead of justifying or making amends for their deeds in Perak, UMNO has successfully turned this into a “cabar kedaulatan raja-raja ” side-show.

    Thank you, Karpal.

  20. Anyway folks, let’s take a step back and think about our esteemed police.

They never acted during the “mamak” protest in KOMTAR or the NGO
(?pewaris, prowaris, …. etc) protest at the governor’s mansion.

    So why act now?

Could it be that someone in UMNO doesn’t want Toyo to be in the limelight?

  21. Not enough! Should have even detained them for Sedition Act. It’s still double standard.

Toyo still has not answered about the allegation causing Teresa Kok to be detained under ISA.

Toyo should thank god if he didn’t do such act in Singapore agains the Grand Old LKY. You know what happen to Tang Liang Hong.

I expected such treatment against Toyo.

  24. It’s not the fault of the police.

It’s not the fault of Karpal.

It’s not even the fault of Khir Toyo and all his unemployable NEP….

It’s the fault of the people.

If Malaysians of all walks of life are willing to stand up to these UMNO warlords and tell to get lost, (people) like Khir Toyo, Khairy Jamaludin and all of UMNO Youth will shiver and dare not rear their faces.

As it is, Malaysians are still watching after their own back, while the Karpal Singhs and Lim Kit Siangs are hung out for crucification.
