  1. This so called ‘Hindraf assisted demo’ I think is actually ‘BN assisted demo’. Using the poor folks after cheating them of their customary right of place by giving such a low compensation. Did they say ‘we know what to do come next general election’ some 50 years to the BN govt who have rob them of their most basic rights? Let PR rule at federal level than we be the judge only than will it be fair to criticise if PR dont perform.

  2. If these ppl are demonstrating against BN, one wonders if they demonstraters can still convey their message peacefully or they’ll be swiped off onto police trucks.

Why are the so called enlightened PR supporters still talk about “maruah kaum”? Pls understand this is not a racial issue, this is a social isu. And come on, HINDRAF wants the state to pay RM30 million of People’s (of all races’) money so that the villagers can continue to stay in kampongs? Think about the other 1 million Penangites, not just blind romantism

  3. Lets share our solidarity with the residence of Kampung Buah Pala.

Whatever insunation of the protesting residence being agent of BN is a lie. such convenient connatation to push aside the true picture of the victimised residences is shallow tactics being used by BN in the past.

being the Government of Penang, clearly Pakatan leaders are staying aloof of the people’s suffering. These leaders only want to react with the people in political events, where they can continue to shoot into the past misdeeds of the BN under Su Koon. There is no denying that BN under Su Koon are many times worst off in caring for Penang. Rather, BN funds have by-passed Penang in the past.

The people’s expectation of the CAT Government cames about due to the many promises made during the election as well as the believe that the often exposures of the Barisan misdeeds would not happen again under Pakatan. Unfortunately, the Pakatan Government do not look into the real problems of the ordinary rakyat. They just want to make political scores.

Aquick change in Government will happen if the leaders keep on talking nonsense and merely setting up service centres to help the people in FILLING FORNMS, and signature endorsement by the Yang Berhormat.

Hindraf is right to advertise that LGE is a weak leader. Infact, the DAP leadership in penang is weak. They dare not face head on with real issues. If Pakatan want to stay effective, Keadilan should take the lead in Penang. Their kind of leaders are real BRAVO.

It is time that the Pakatan Leaders set up tents at the villages under threat. The real challenges are there.

The Tanjung Bungah Residence’s complaint on hillslope development are not being treated with responsibilities by the Pakatan Government!

The Jalan Raja Uda Squatters victimisation by the Developers remain unresolved!

All these REAL challenges will eventually blow into the FACE of the Pakatan Leaders. Do not look down on the small man or small people. They are the people who will eventually throw you out of KOMTAR.

  4. Stay on illegal land and expect to be compensated MYR300,000 each (which is the price of a teraaced double storey house) paid for with money of the other Penangites who are just as poor? C’mon lah be reasonable.

I was sympathetic until I hear their lawyer Darshan Singh calling a senior state staff “office boy”. That reflect the mentality of a so-called learned lawyer, what do you expect his clients to behave?

  5. Probably PR government in Penang can counter this MIC (oppss… sorry, HINDRAF) rally by having another rally of its own at Batu Kawan Stadium. Just as to remind this MIC (again sorry! my mistake, HINDRAF) who the majority of Penangite is supporting.

  6. I am speaking my mind because I was there. I don’t agree at all with what has been said and protested. You should be demonstrating at Gerakan, UMNO, MIC and MCA Hq. Be fair. Be fair as this is a social issue. I believe Hindraf has been infiltrated by BN. Sadly, if you continue to bark, the rakyat will bark you down. I saw the police getting ready to herd the protesters into the police trucks. But, a young man(with glasses) – didn’t get his name quickly alerted YB Ng to bring them into auditorium. I am glad that caring young man was there to save the day. Otherwise, troubles will start to get messy. Thank you young man. You were wearing a red shirt and a tie. Glasses. My red shirt – thank you. Otherwise, the BN folks will continue to breathe violence into this.

  7. We must never underestimate the power of Hindraf. Let’s not forget they got us an extra public holiday. Now, who else has ever managed to do that? And after the street demos in KL (there was unforgetable footage shown on CNN of an Indian man dancing, amidst exploding water cannons, on the flooded streets), everyone else suddenly acquired courage, which, in my opinion, ultimately led to 3/8.

This demonstration seems quite dry to me.

  8. By allowing the HINDRAF protestors to gather inside the KOMTAR auditorium, the state government was actually protecting them from the fury and might of the bully aka Polis Diraja Malaysia.

A BN administration would have showered them with tear gas and water cannons.

There is a huge difference between a Pakatan Rakyat government and an UMNO one after all.

I agree this is not about race.

It is about Rule of Law and Malaysian legal and social justice.

  10. What these people did when UMno rule Penang ??? Sit at home and watch Sun TV ??? These people should gather at Bangunan UMno in Anson Road.

No point barking at Komtar and demand Guan Eng and Ryes to walk the talk. As said above, give mandate to Pakatan to rule Federal than the rest will be at your door step.

You can talk this and that section to prevent the siege but you forgot the godfathers who sits in every corner to make sure things favor to their crony. Unless you pay them more than enough.

Do you expect the State pays some amount which calculated based on completed Oasis Condo cost towards a piece of empty land ??? That would be the dumbest idea for a State who begins to correct all the malicious account and starts generating profits towads future developements for the sake of our next generation.

As for this case the end result will be way too long and for sure the bail out will keep on rocketing along the way. If these people fills DAP cheated them then i have nothing much to say and suggest that on next general election please vote for UMNo/BN.

  13. Federal court … decided. Land was given by Barisan Nasional. So the only way to help the villagers is for the Penang state to fight big time with Federal govt. And Federal Court is the highest court in Malaysia i.e. no more appeal.

Too bad Lim Guan Eng, someone dump a truckload of …. in front of your house.

  14. IMHO, this is an example of how everybody wants a helping from the gravy train.. but unfortunately there is not enough to go around. That’s the result of decades of focusing too much effort fighting over how to best cut the economic pie instead of expanding it. What’s more the world economy has yet to recover.

Their criticism of the govt policies comes at right place but wrong time – a bit too late, but better late than never. Change takes time, but they should also perservere.

While it makes perfect sense to pressure the govt/political parties now because they seem to be the only lifeline for the community at this juncture, they should strive and work hard to better their own lives using their own two hands as well. If some 20 years down the road, the community still has to depend on the govt of the day to better their lives at large, then that will be one of Penang’s greatest tragedies indeed.

My only hope is that even if they cannot see the results of their efforts in their lifetimes, they would feel vindicated to know that it will come for their future generations. Perhaps one day, the economic cake would be large enough for all such that no single community would need to rely on the govt to live their lives.

  15. To me, thing is very simple. Just ask ourselves, why others can perform better than us though under ‘marginalised’ situation, while we being intimidated constantly.

Blaming is very easy to do. I also can do that.

  16. $30 m, how about many still living in squatters. They are also culture and way of life. In fact I enjoy living in such places because it is so social, less crime and everyone knows one another and help each other out. Why I have to evicted ? Why the State Government do not pay the developer to PERSERVE my way of life? Why the Orang Alsi also KICK out of their country? Why don’t the Government help them too to preseve their culture and way of life? They can help in bring in tourists to see how they blow darts.

  17. Pakatan’s gomen may need at least 2 terms to clean the mess from previous gomen. I don’t think its fair to blame the present gomen and pay the compensation to the developer if the state decides to cancel/call-off the development that has been approved before.

  18. The villagers should start to look out for the previous Penang government leaders and start to protest. We must understand that the previous state government has already been punished by being booted out. Pakatan came to the village before elections and promised them their land if voted in, imagine if Pakatan didnt capture Penang at that time, think both ways, even then, Now its all about MONEY. I urge the CM to sit down and work something out with the villagers. Their stand is to stand by their land rich with history, after 200 years of living there. Hey Anil, not for the Penang caring government style in giving us space in the Auditorium A, i think you would have been providing live coverage from state police HQ. haha.

  20. Yes, this is not a political or race issue but Hindraf sure is making it a race and political by slandering LGE calling him a weak leader and what-not. Right now, there is not facts presented for anyone to support the Kg Buah Pala issue. Unless the Kg Buah Pala and Hindraf can present a cogent and reasoned argument, don’t go around trying to blackmail and arm twisting LGE who is on your side. If he can help, I am sure he would. Hindfraf is not helping and it is clear they are becoming like a bunch of hooligans. No, BN hooligans.

Get your representatives and lawyers and work quietly with LGE, PKR and PAS. What need is there for demonstration? Perhaps you’ve been hijacked by BN’s racialists in the form of Hindfraf?

  24. It’s not about compensation, if the state government used the force to violate the contracts with the developer, it will sure tarnish the image of the state, nobody will think to invest in Penang again, is this what they want? Try think in a bigger picture la brothers and sisters!
I’m a Perakian and I do hope investors come and invest in my hometown, keep forcing the government, and I’m going to welcome the investors!
Furthermore the present government is not the one behind the contracts, I envy Penangites for having a caring government, unlike the ZOMBIE we have in Perak here!

  25. The people here forgot why Bn was booted out. YOu also forgot to uphold the rights of the people. Now it is very convenient, anyone againts PR, you say BN inflitereated. The people are not asking for money and mind you they are not squatters. People who comment please get yr facts right. All tey are asking is their heritage land to be kept and not developed. PR promised to stop the project , so now u are the govt, do it. If Koh Tso koon said the same statement as LGE, we would have whacked him up saying not sensistive for people’s needs and so on. But now because LGE, all are becoming bias. The people have been fighting since 2005, maybe all who writting her were watching SUn TV. Of course this is not a racial issue, it is a issue of housing rights. Don’t support PR blindly. If they are wrong say it wrong..then only they will correct it. If selangor can stop all demolishments of villages, why cannot Penang.
