  • Najib springs a surprise of his own
This is Najib last ditch effort to ensure BN wins the by-election but I believe the rakyat are smarter than this to fall into this trap. We shall wait for Anwar’s surprise before we comment more. :)
  • Batang Ai: Salcra plantations yield low dividends
I’ve been to Lubok Antu before and it is indeed a very small town. Living conditions need much improvement too and I’m sure the BN gang will exploit this by giving out the instant mee promises.

I hope the people will not be blinded but make the right decision! :)

  • Mahathir has not made much impact in both seats here. The people are looking into the future and not the past. They seem not interested in any more ‘story telling’ by past leaders. Ezam too made no impact in both seats. Ezam seems to become a liability to UMNO wherever he is present. The real contest is now between PAS and UMNO in Bukit Gantang and PKR and MIC in Bukit Selambar. PAS has rejuvenated a lot since and is now close to the people’s heart in traditionally Malay settings. Nizar is seen by many as a future leaders – a brave one for that matter. His personality and charm have won the hearts of many voters in Bukit Gantang. The Chinese and Indians are very supportive of Nizar. The sentiment in Bukit Gantang is still for Nizar. He outshines UMNO cnadidate. He is leading and he will win. In Bukit Selambar, the PPP-factor has convinced many Indians and professional to support PKR’s candidate, Manikumar. The support given by the Malays and Chinese for Manikumar is just overwhelming. The majority will support Manikumar as they want him to represent them in the state government. Voting for the Independents, according to many inteviewed, is a waste and it will bring no benefits to the people. They will either be alone or end up hopping into another party. Looks like most of them will lose their deposits. MIC candidate will get votes but not as much as to make Manikumar a looser. Manikumar can still make it. PAS supporters are giving full support to Manikumar. PKR’s campaign tactics and presence are just superb. Many young supporters could be seen waving flags supporting PAS and PKR. DAP is doing a great job campaigning for Manikumar. As far as campaigns and crowd supports are concerned BN cannot beat PR. Mahathir’s presence here has made very little impact on voters’ sentiment. A farmer quipped, ‘Dia dulu pun orang tak suka, sebab to Pak Lah menang besar pada tahun 2004. Sekarang dok kutuk Pak Lah pula. Lepas salam pun, kutuk lagi. Apa ni? Keluar UMNO, nak masuk UMNO pulak. Aku tak faham…’

  • Mahathir is no asset to UMNO now. Many are not happy with him. Many just hate the way he treated Pak Lah. The Indians and Chinese are not happy with him either. The people still cannot forget his past -as he would never admit the blunders he did when he was the PM. Corruption and cronyism ruled the day then. The 2004 general election proved that when he quit, Pak Lah scored high. The 1999 general election saw him almost losing power. Among the religious people of Bukit Gantang, they are just unhappy with Mahathir. Generally, the people here do not think high of Mahathir anymore. He was a thorn in UMNO and BN during the 2008 general election. He was condemning Pak Lah throughout, then. The people can never forget this. They feel that Mukhriz lost in the recent UMNO’s youth chief contest because of the father’s attitude towards Pak Lah. As far as Islamic credentials are concerned the people here feel that Nizar is a true leader who should be voted in at all cost.

  • In Malay “kejutan” can also mean “surprise” other than shock. So I guess when PKR say “kejutan” it simply means “surprise” rather than “shock”.

Anyway PKR should learn not to shoot hot air.

  • TDM is one person who can criticise anyone, leave the party as he wishes and joins as and when he likes. He behaves like an emperor and no one should control him. Sad that a party like UMNO is thrashed and cabinet members belittled at his whims. Does UMNO need a person like him to improve its image? He is more a liability.

  • I am just wondering why Nizar is spending so much time with the chinses when majority of the chinese votes are for PR.

I think Nizar should spend more time to woo the malay votes.

Chinese being chinese and when they make a decision to support a party or a person you can be rest assured that they will not change their mind easily.

So YB Nizar, please go woo the malay voters which is as important as the non malay. votes

  • Do PR really need last night “kejutan” of PPP’s 6000 members jumping over to PKR???

6000 or 600 0r just 60 .Come on we do need this kind of propaganda. This is not going to influnce the voters in BS.

Does PPP even have 6000 members in Kedah?????

Where were the members who were supposed to join PKR.Did they came to the ceramah or are they just phantom members to serve the self interest of Nadarajah.

Next we will have Nadarajah demanding to be field in the next election!!!

Come on, surely PR can recruit new members and not those rejects of BN.

  • Great job by Anil. Keep it up. Passionate and professional journalism
indeed unlike the … that we get from the MSM. Hidup rakyat Malaysia

  • cant wait to see the crowd at chedets session tomorrow.. can it get thousands to come to listen to him

  • Salam Sejahtera,

    To Daud,

i think, You forgot to add Post votes in your calculation. the figure for the majority 2472 is not safe at all.

    Salam

  • NO NO NO the Rakyat of Malaysia DO NOT Want anymore of Dr.Mahathir’s racist poison. The Emperor framed & sacked Anwar because Anwar as Finance Minister refused to use Public funds to bail out Mahathir’s son’s Shipping Co.
Yes….and Mahathir took over the Finance Ministry….how very convenient …….its like striking the lottery a billion times over. …. Porsche franchise,F1, Marina Island ,a bakery and many many more.
‘Ketuanan Melayu’ … whilst the poor Malays,Chinese and Indians are still thinking how to put food on the table to feed their loved ones !
The man is back for more ? Badawi was a saint compared to Mahathir.
The Rakyat of Malaysia are SICK of the LIES, RACISM & CORRUPTION and will never forget the Cruel Death of ALTANTUYA and how Justice was denied to the family of Altantuya.
YB Nizar & Pakatan will bring REFORM to Malaysia
    …..Hidup REFORMASI…..Hidup Ketuanan Rakyat!

  • Great job on covering the events live! Looks like a huge crowd there in the picture! Can’t wait for elections this Tuesday! :)

  • Actually there were only six (6) so-called PPP clowns who jumped.

  • Dear Anil

Samy and Maha are dead woods; Rakyat cannot understand
why they are being brought back up to the political scene.
Samee is definitely a liability for Malaysian Indians – he should not be brought into the picture. He is a foregone conclusion – a failure for the Malaysian Indians – he has done nothing for the
PEOPLE except that he has fattened himself – bodily and also
financially. NO MALAYSIAN INDIANS will VOTE FOR HIM HIS PARTY
AS LONG AS HE IS NEAR THE M-EYE-SEE. During 1960 he was only
an office boy carrying tea for the bosses.

IT IS NOT UNDERSTOOD WHY THE MACC HAS NOT YET STARTED
INVESTIGATING THE FORMER MIC LEADER – SAMEE – HOW AN
OFFICE BOY CAN BECOME SO WEALTHY – COME ON MACC USE
COMMENCE SENSE – MOVE ON HIS OLD FILE – WHERE IS THE FILE
TRACE THE OLD FILE AND RE-INVESTIGATE HIM THOURGHOULY.

MACC MUST HAVE INDIVIDUAL FILES ON ALL STATE ASSEMBLYMEN
AND THE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENTS – INCLUDING ALL THE
MINISTERS WITH A COPY OF THEIR ASSET DECLARATIONS ANNUALLY.

IF YOU DO NOT ACT, THEN THE RAKYAT WILL THINK THAT YOU ARE
USELESS – THE MACC – that is only the name change but no
    action.

Please move on Samy and find out HOW he became so
rich. my good – THE ESTATE WORKERS ARE
STILL BEING PAID BETWEEN $400 – 500 PER MONTH. While
the Assemblymen and MPs is (thriving from the) country.
Nearly $50,000 a month. – do you believe a month.

How can the Malaysian Estate workers live on this meage sum. Unless
there is something wrong with the Administration.

What is the use of this big fanfare – look at the number of
unemployeed WORKERS . How will they pay the rent, feed their children and themselves without Income – Come on NAJIB – do something for the POORER COMMUNITY PARTICULARLY THE MALAYSIAN INDIANS AND THE POORER MALAYS IN THE KAMPONGS. KL CITY IS NOT MALAYSIA – it is only a show-piece for the world – the twin towers – rubbish – go to the kampongs and see the real situation. Shocking.

What the NGOS should do is to have a team of cameramen TO go around all over malaysian kampongs and film the kampungs – AND THEN SHOW IT TO THE world – the REAL MALAYSIA – shocking state of affairs

    Wake up BARISAN NATIONAL!

  • I agree with K’s comment. For those people who have nothing nice to say about the “kejutan” thing, please keep it to yourself. This is not the time to be critical. Please be united for freedom sake. I am not a Malaysian but my heart is with your cause. I pray hard that you will win the war.

  • Anil, I was at the ceramah site at Ria Jaya,SP last nite.
Actually there were about 3000 plus listening to the Pakatan ceramah and were all singing along.
2 doors away was the BN bilik staffed with about 20 MIC and there was a few people outside their place.Frustrated they started to interupt the Pakatan ceramah by shouting and playing loud music to distract the crowd gathered at Pakatan ceramah.Pakatan speakers were cool enough to tell the crowd to ignore those BN fools.
The BN speaker even challenge the crowd who just ignore them.BN cant even get a speaker to speak there to attract the crowd gathered but were just behaving like kids deprive of sweets!
When the polis moved in , polis seek the cooperations of the Pakatan office to stop the ceramah as the situations was tensed but caused by the BN nuisance people, gosh do we want to vote these sort of people in,people who cant even behave ???
The crowd eventaully disperse and went to other Pakatan ceramah to avoid any untowards incidents.

  • God works in unknown ways. Deep in my heart, I wish that PR will win the three states.

What is God’s plan for Msia under the new PM Najib? Will he be under pressure to reform or maintain a tight grip on the status quo?

Tonight, I’ll pray that the the best party with the best leaders will win in line with God’s future plan for this beatiful and mighty nation.

Msia is beatiful because it is the nation beloved by God for its racial harmony despite government-sponsored racism. It is mighty because the dramatic political upheavals and elections have been broadly peaceful with no bloodshed.

  • K

    Keep dream on guys…

I think it is already Najib 2 Anwar 0. The chances of Najib 3 and Anwar 0 is very real. Nizar has bet everything, his political career, PR’s claim and PAS & DAP’s credibility on this by-election. If he loses, the damage will be humongous. If he wins, the impact will be minimal as it would change nothing and status quo will remain. But the loss, along with the expected drubbing at BS and BA, will reverse the momentum built over the last 1 year.

You can expect with every reform and change Najib introduces, the weaker PR gets. The performance of PR govt in all states are bad enough. With these defeats, the state govts likely come under severe pressure (in terms of defection, funding and people’s protests). I can even see some of them collapsing (Selangor).

  • I pray that the right person will win the seats… and I do secretly hope that PR is the one.

  • Dear Anil,

Thank you for your great effort to update us on the bye-elections.

After all is said & done….

It might be 50:50 for all the 3 bye-elections….

UMNO/BN have always chosen the easier way of “Gutter Politics” & the “Law of the Jungle”….

Intimidation & hard to refuse Parting Gifts(Political, Business Goodies!) at this nation’s & taxpayer’s expense….

This great nation & its Leaders COULD have gone either of 2 ways….

The Honourable Westminster style of Democracy with the Rule of Law requiring the formation of the RCI prior to the appointment/s
That would make this great Nation, its King, its Leaders & its Rayaat proud of its Integrity, Transparency & Honour….

Or the easier way of “Gutter Politics” & the “Law of the Jungle”….

Intimidation & hard to refuse Parting Gifts(Political, Business Goodies!)

Desperate People, at Desperate Times, will RESORT to Desperate Henious Actions…

  • The curtain is going to fall soon for the campaigning to stop. Tomorrow is the voting day. The people are creating history here. People of all races have joined hands to campaign for candidates of different race and religion. This is good sign for the country. The racial and religious lines have been broken. People have generally melted into a Malaysian race. The people have learned to be together. Thanks for PR and BN for advocating a multi-racial approach in politics. PR obviously do not play the racial card as this is the party’s philosophy. BN should emulate this approach to stay relevant. By going round saying to the people of one race that Nizar is DAP’s puppet was not well received by the people here. They instead turned round to ask, “What about UMNO and MCA? Who is the puppet in this case.” This has backfired. UMNO and BN could still be accepted by all Malysians if they stop the race-first approach to politics. PR, in a way, has changed the political landscape in the country. The people now feel that BN should follow the same. Generally, PAS (for PR) has made much impact in Bukit Gantang. NCA and GERAKAN were not effective enough. MIC tried hard but failed was not convincing enough. The young voters are all out for PAS and PKR. Mahathir was described a ‘flip-flop’ politician – citing what he said about Pak Lah on the Perak issue. The word ‘lucu’ has now backfired. As now he is singing a different song to the people of Bukit Gantang and the people are describing this as ‘lucu’. Mahathir’s presence here has been a failure. Old thoughts of this man still linger on the minds of many Kedahans and Perakians. He is not well-liked by the young people here. A man in his 40s said, “Orang tua ni patut bersara saja dari politik. Cakap dah tak sama lagi. Dulu lain, sekarang lain. Buat malu diri sendiri saja. Dia dipergunakan oleh orang UMNO yang tak berani berhadapan dengan rakyat. Kesihan. Kalau semangat sangat jadilah macam Lee Kuan Yew. Kuan Yew dihormati orang sampai sekarang.” The people cannot accept him because of his flip-flop approach to politics. Samy Vellu made the mistake appearing in Bukit Selambau. Though he looked remorseful, the baggage he carries with him has made the people reject him. Ezam is a spoiler to BN. The people cannot accept a flip-flop personality like him. Passing the ‘six boxes of nothing’ to Anwar now is a cheap political gimmick. The people knows him well because of these ‘six boxes’ that never appeared. People have lost faith in him. Anyway, in Bukit Gantang about 53 percent of the Malays, at least 85 percent of the Chinese and another 90 percent of the Indians will vote for PAS. It is a sure win for PAS. In Bukit Selambau about there will be many protest votes from UMNO members as they initially wanted an UMNO man to contest. Manikumar will get between 40 to 48 percent of the Malay votes, 80 percent of the Chinese votes and about 85 percent of the Indian votes. It is a win for PKR. This prediction is based on the sentiment the rakyat here have displayed. ‘Anything’ can happen between now and tomorrow. This is politics. Good luck to BN and PR. Let the ‘semangat bersama tak kira kaum’ prevails forever to create a better Malaysia forever. My apology to all I have inadvertently offended in my comments. This is politics.

Nice spin…suggest you to start to work on another spin on why the pakatan candidates still lost despite “overwhelming support” that you had spun earlier…hahahahaha…
