If you are free tomorrow (Sunday), why not hop over for the final day of the Freedom Film Fest in Penang organised by Komas. This time the fest is being hosted in Han Chiang School/College, near the Penang State Mosque.
You can find the programme schedule here. You are spoilt for choice, but if you are not sure which film to go for, I have been reliably told these shouldn’t be missed:
11.00am – Flow
Irena Salina’s award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century – The World Water Crisis.
Salina builds a case against the growing privatization of the world’s dwindling fresh water supply and introduces many of the governmental and corporate culprits behind the water grab, and begs the question “CAN ANYONE REALLY OWN WATER?”
5.00pm – Prisoners of a white god
A Czech researcher Tomáš Ryška spent nearly two years in Thai and Laosen mountains in order to search for causes of wrongdoing and violence done to the Akhas and their children. This dramatic documentary investigates the reality and change experience by a small mountain ethnic tribe.
This film is also timely:
2.00pm – Delaying justice
Indigenous communities which are experiencing land grabs for all sorts of development projects, particularly logging and plantations, are turning to the court for justice. However, this inevitable road is often bumpy and strewn with further anxieties and intimidation and (could be) potentially fatal.

i was at the FFF for all 3 days (so were the SB i heard). great movies indeed! as antares said, you won’t see them on tv or the big screen so it is a big waste if many of you didn’t go for the screenings. the last day movie was the best – jihad for love, shows muslim gays and lesbians speaking up.
