The new Free Malaysia Today portal has a scoop about Zaid Ibrahim ‘smoking the peace pipe’ (figuratively-lah) with Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy in Singapore.

  1. How is
“An enlightened affirmative action programme … focus our energies on alleviating the plight of marginalised groups”
    congruent with
“A PR government is determined on eradicating poverty irrespective of race or religion”
If you’re affirming anything or grouping anybody, you’re being discriminatory! Waythamoorthy’s request for abolition is right and Zaid’s retort is ridiculous!

I’ve got a terrible, empty feeling inside. I feel as though my efforts would be best spent packing boxes and organising air charters.

Why isn’t there a political party in Malaysia that is actually credible – that has a clear policy on the things people care about, as opposed to bending whichever way the wind blows? I wouldn’t even care if they were unlikely ever to win a general election, as long as there was one person willing to stand up and be counted for having respectable principles.

Malaysian politics is like being subjected to torture and being asked to choose the method.

    • This was what I wrote over at freemalaysia today :

      ——-Start quote——-
Policies, particularly those that affects the poor or those that we hope to help, often had the unintended effects. If we pay beggars then we are encouraging beggary just as paying the poor is to encourage poverty. An enlightened policy must be one that sought to alleviate the sufferings of the moment and at the same time address the underlying deficiencies and causes of the current state of affair. We must not only help alleviate but also to empower and this will have long term effect on society.

Asking for RM50 billion right off has the making of many flies attracted to the honeypot and in the end very few who really needed help would be helped.

      —— End quote ——–

The real question that we must ask is whether BN or PR will be the best vehicle to address the current blatang imbalances within the country ? Najib is pursueing “high income nationhood” without any real rhyme or reason. And history had shown in “high income nations” that disparity is always well marked.

DSAI’s policty of having human values as the core – the center – of its administration and policies is I believed moving in the right direction. Human values become the determinant of policy direction, implementations and programs.

If DSAI could flesh it out more and engage malaysians in the process I believe that there is still hope.

So Sean, what is so ridiculous about zaid’s response ? Please elaborate and shed some light and not just volley malicious pot shots.

  3. Well I think it is rather too late in the day for PR to talk to Hindraf.

Hindraf has transformed too. Waytha and Uthaya no longer the undisputed leaders of the Indians nor they command the same respect they had once. Hindraf too has broken up into several splinter groups and it is a pale shadow of its former self.

I think PR are living in delusion if they think they can gain back the Indian support by just persuading these 2 guys. Not after their disasterous performance in the last 18 months. Just read any Tamil newspapers and you know that people are just fed up and distrust Pakatan, especially their Indian leaders whom are considered as Ettapan or Quisling.

    • In politics nothing is too late. UMNO Najib tried to use every devious means to split PR through PAS unity talk leadership, cow head issue, Kg Buah Pala, Tg Tokong, Sabah & Sarawak PKR leadership, using MAAC against Selangor PR Adun, (enticing) corruptible Adun etc etc etc but it failed miserably. Now PR is gaining strength and emerging stronger every day. PR is definitely not in delusion but UMNO failures means that Zero KPI Gerakan & KTK, MIC, MCA, PPP & the new breakway party from Hindraf with their leadership now in disarray, they are feeling the heat and getting desperate. Now Najib UMNO is using his last stand by putting up message in the media of his late father shaking hand with Mao Tze Tung. THAT IS DEFINITELY A DESPERATE ATTEMPT BUT THE PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS ANYMORE

With Zaid Ibrahim now drafting out the blueprint and guidelines for PR, UMNO & BN will be KICKED OUT. RAHMAN…… will come true

Forget about HINDRAF they no longer the indian icon anymore because of their extreme stand on religion and race .Uttaya and his bro cant even keep their own organisation in order alas how they goinng to unite the indians. The actual fact is they backstabbed the pakatan parties not the otherway around , and mind it many indians voted for pakatan for other reasons not only hindraf , other factors like DSAI , TGNA , REFORM AND POVERTY.

Ramasamy, Rayer, Sivanesan, Kulasegaran n many others used Hindraf 4 political mileage. Waythamoorthy is the rightful ultimate Hindraf leader. Even Uthaya was only Hindraf legal advisor.they command the respect and support of majority Indians compared with other so-called Indian leaders. Otherwise Zaid wud not f met Waytha. 7. Sean,

Just like you I would like to meet that politician that truly fights for the people. However, politicians are politicians. Whether in opposition or government, they always take the easy way out. Nevertheless, don’t be discouraged because we the people have done the rught thing by increasing the voice of the opposition in this country. With a bigger voice in parliament the opposition has forced the government to soften its approach and look into matters of concern such as corruption, the economy and the plight of the marginalised more seriously. That’s why the opposition voice is so important to us as they provide the element of “checks and balances”. Yes, we can’t depend on them 100% but we can protet ourselves by giving the opposition a stronger voice in parliamant and state assemblies.

  9. Being negative is one thing but failure to see that the benefit out of this meeting is so much for a better Malaysia. PR need all the information and ideas they can to how better run this country not only learned from BN’s failure. So, this is the right thing to do even if HINDRAF no longer as powerful as once it started. If you stick to one party you are the hostage but if you keep them suspense every 4-5 years you have them in your hands to make demands to help improve Malaysia. Look like a lot of us are still not mature enough to handle that from the response I see or you are just BN’s die hard supporter without any ability to think what is best for Malaysia.

You missing the point that what is best for Pakatan is not necessarily the same as what’s the best for Malaysia.
The raging issues in Penang created by our dear Cheap Minister is a testimony for this fact.

Hindraf must remain nuetral and apolitical. However, personally I am uncomfortable with the concept and objectives of Hindraf since they have gone backward in terms of ethnic unity by championing a narrow racial interests. Some of their claims too are rather unrealistic and wildly off the mark. Though I have some sympathies for them, I am not neither fan nor a supporter.

I am sure Pakatan folks are pleased that their Cybertroopers like yourself working tirelessly and in a bull-headed manner to defend the leaking Pakatan machine. In fact this act of desperation reminds of that cute little tale of little boy who tried to plug the leaking dyke in Holland. Heroic, I must say !

Well, I am not sure at all what is that humanistic core that DSAI is promoting or stands for. The only thing that is clear as far as Anwar is concerned is his fanatical, single-minded pursuit of the primeministership. Other than that, all else is vague, perhaps intentionally so.

Anwar can’t even manage his own party and how would people can expect him to manage the country. PKR itself is dysfunctional, seemingly like an asylum where the inmates runs the show.

Look at PKR in Penang, it is now split into 3 groups. Nationally it is even worse. Until today he dared not to act against Kulim MP.

As I mentioned before, I campaigned for PR during GE but became disillusioned since. So please don’t accuse me of being a BN lover. My issues are with PR and I don’t care about BN.

Unlike … Najib that spewed half truths… with his Zero KPi 1 Malaysia, he confront the issues through corruptible people and the use of force by the authorities against the opposition and people NOT within the context of the law. And with a Zero KPi Gerakan & KTK that could only NOD instead of shake, it only shows how best Gerakan can be for Malaysia or Penang “`NOTHING AT ALL.“`

  10. Hallo! K, You have had enough of good governance of the PR held states over the past 18 months? Why?

As a layman, without interests, vested or otherwise, I feel we will have to continue to eke out a living under the BN Federal Government. The primary objectives of all Malaysians is to get rid of BN and its cronies. Under the PR or BN makes no difference to us, at least, all we know is that there is less corruption, arrogance and lackadasical attitudes in Governance.

Considering the many factors that includes sabotages, lies and half truths spewed by the MSM and every effort to destabilise the PR held State Governments, they have done well so far. There is at least still hope with Malaysia if there is a change in Federal Government, at least corruption can be contained or minimised. So bad is the problem that today a few hundred thousands does not satisfy this people, or a few millions. Now corruption is big time and it involves millions and billions. Look at the scandals, one after the other that is cropping up, PKFZ, Bakun, Double rail tracks, the estates of the late Zakaria Derus,Khir Toyo……… the list goes on and on. It is too long to remember, so much so that corruption is morally accepted now. Minimised it or contained it and let the monies flow into the economy and you can see that it works wonders. Look at China, where corruption suspects, when found guilty will be executed. Look at where they are today. Look at the 300 billion USD spent on the bullet train that is to connect the entire country. Once completed this service will be the best and the most advanced in the world with a speed of 220mph. Considering the amount reported to be siphoned off the country’s economy, this USD300 billion can do wonders for all Malaysians.

Hindraf working with Pakatan is a good omen for Malaysians. While there is no doubt the Indians only forms about 9% of the country’s population, we have to consider them as equals. Frankly, all men are borne equals, why should not the PR work with Hindraf? Whether their strengths had been diluted or not, is irrelevant, a sizeable number of Indians and Malaysians still respect Hindraf, and remember November 25th 2007, Hindraf as an organization, woke Malaysians up from their slumbers and understood what unity can do. While there is no denying that the Indian community are always at odds with each other, we cannot really blame them as we need to understand where they stand in the country today. Look at how badly they are treated by the authorities, everytime there is a shootout or death in custody, (many a) time, the victims are Indians. Come on, the Indians are also humans and it is good to welcome them in PR, at least they have good people within them who would die for the Indians rather than those who took advantage of the Indians and milked them dry.

The Indian Community has also to think rationally that on their own, they will not be able to win a single seat, state or Parliament in any elections held within the Country, as there is not one seat with an overwhelming Indian majority, and even if they have, the votes will be split amongst the MIC, IPF, now Makkal Sakthi. Their votes therefore is not crucial anymore as there are just too many Indian parties, cannot name them all…. Whilst ther votes are not crucial, they are important and in cases when the race is very close, they can be decisive. Therefore, Hindraf as an organization got to be extremely cautious with whom they work with, it is important that they work with a coalition who will be fair to all, and that they will not be marginalised. Unlike Makkhal Sakthi, whose objectives are suspect and formed and registered in double quick time for the Prime Minister to launch the party. To those in Hindraf who wishes to see the movement work with BN, the question is, do you want Hindraf to be treated like MIC in the BN? I am sure many rational Indian Malaysians would not want that anymore. 52 years of marginalization is enough!

Together we can make a difference, and my deepest respects to Saudara Gobalakrishnan, Manickavasagam, Charles Santiago, Sivaraja, Sivakumar, Ramasamy, Sungai Siput, the lists of good Indians goes on and on and the good thing is all of them are with the PR!
The icon of a good Indian leader in Malaysia who is fair and brave, who speaks without fear or favour but in the name of justice is none other than the Lion of Jelutong, Saudar Karpal Singh and now we have Gobind Singh Deo. To Indian Malaysians, see how you can flourished under the PR and to those in BN, can they or have they voiced or fought for you, dear Indian brothers and sisters? Let us think carefully, do not be utilised by opportunists within our community and do throw the future of our generations down the drain. Change while we can as within 20 years, 99% of all electoral constituencies are expected to be Malay majority seats. There is no point fighting with each other, as we will only be further marginalised. Let us work with good leaders, regardless of race and Zaid Ibrahim, we can trust.

Surely you are not joking ?

Why do you think Anwar sent Zaid to meet up with Wathya ? It is because none of the Indian leaders in PR are respected or trusted by Indians.

The PR Indians leaders have lost so much credibility they do not even dare to face Indian community now.

People like Prof Rama of Penang is considered as a joke while the others you mentioned are looked to be lower than even the MIC leaders who were soundly defeated in the last GE.

What kind of progress you see in PR states ? Not only that I see none but I actually see they have gotten worse. Perhaps it is time to come out of your cave and see the real world rather than rely on Mkini, MT and MInsider for your news.

  14. The Indians should be represented by 2 political parties. One should allign themsleves to BN and one to PR. The same goes to Malays and Chinese and other minorities and people of Sabah and Sarawak. We are now on the verge of creating a 2-coalition party system for the country. We should abhor monopoly in politics. It fails the people. Mr Zaid is doing a good job. He should helm PR. We hope that more capable people join PR. BN should still be relevant. The best coalition should govern the country. Only then can we say that Malaysians have achieved first-world mentality. I plead to all Malaysians to support PR until the concept of a 2-coalition system becomes a reality. When the US politics is between the Republicans and the Democrats, let’s make it PR and BN in the Malaysian context. Malaysians should be brave to go for this formula. Mr. Zaid’s meeting with Hindraf leader is a positive move towards this direction.

One can’t blame them because it has been indoctrinated since time immemorial as Samy Velu says a lot of political parties will come and go but MIC remains the same no matter what the circumstance. Therefore for the Indians, it doesn’t matter how many are killed in police lock ups, how many are without NRICs or birth certificates, how many Hindu temples being demolished and how many indulge in criminal activities as long as the MIC is there it will all be ok.Soon the Indonesians and Bangladeshis will be voting and the Indians will not matter anymore. The question is why can’t the Indians stand up and say I am not an inferior to the Malay or to any other race, I am an equal just like the rest.

  20. Hi! K,

To rebut your theory one by one.

    1) Zaid was never sent to meet Waytha by Anwar. Zaid is on leave for six months to pursue his mission of creating a two party system. Please kindly be enlightened unless you are too engrossed with reading the MSM and putting your half truths and lies into this blog again. Please get your facts right, please!

2)Your shallow mentality again shows. Why do you think that none of the Indians are respected by Hindraf? You are absolutely out of your minds to make such assumptions! Consider the heavyweights in the PR today, a significant numbers are Indians and they do not shirk or run away like many of the BN MPs or elected representatives will do. Don’t names like, Karpal Singh, Gobind Singh Deo, Speaker Sivakumar, Sivaraja, Charles Santiago, Macnikavasagam, Gobalakrishnan, Sungai Siput stands out for democracy and equality? Has any representatives from the BN speak so loudly and honestly for the rakyat, regardless of race and religion? Your mentality of Indians are so lopsided and stinks K. Your idea of a good idea, perhaps is Samy Vellu? Perhaps, Hindraf will entertain Samy Vellu, when even the ordinary Indians threw slippers at?… How would you describe the police forcibly tearing the robes of Speaker Sivakumar?… You make hearts boil with your stupid mentality, K.

    3) The PR Indian leaders had shown unbelievable strength, in the face of adverse difficulties. Where many would have run away, they stood by the Rakyat to defend the Rakyat! Your description of PR Indian leaders are the mind sets of those in the 60′s where they lived in the estates! Mind you, today’s Indians are just as good or much much better than you K. Our votes for these Indian leaders will never sway come what may.

    4) What kind of progress have I seen? Well, surely corruption had been minimised! Come out of my caves? You gotta be kidding, K, I guess you gotta come out of your stupid mind set and stop insulting the intelligence of the Indians who are far superior than you in so many ways….

Yeah, I gotta stop viewing MKINI, M today and all the other alternative news media and depend on the MSM and your spewing of half truth and lies? You can never again forced the rakyat to do that, K! Never again. The young people of today far outnumbers those in your age group, and the future of the Country is in their hands to decide on and not you, K

    • Hi PR Man

Let me return the favour in kind by pointing out the highly fallacious, illogical and downright laughable points one by one.

      1. Do you mean Zaid is acting alone without any instruction from Anwar ? It is clear you don’t even read the alternative (ie PR’s propaganda machine) carefully. Could you please provide your source which says that Zaid is acting alone ? And I wonder why Zaid is taking 6 months leave. Don’t you think this is rather strange or even unprecendented ?

      2. I am laughing as I am reading your reply as I am puzzled what the police tearing off the self-declared Speaker Siva’s robe has got to do with me or this issue.

As I said it before, the Indian community had high respects for the PR Indian leaders you mentioned but all that just evaporated after the GE when they kept toeing the party line rather than fight based on principles of justice and fairness. KBP is just one of these issue. There are many.

      3. Yes, these PR Indian leaders have shown unbelievable strength is meekly following the directives of their party heads and be led by the nose.

      4. Yes, there have been a lot of progress I agree in PR states. In Penang we see unchecked development and destruction of open spaces, heritage, culture. We also seen tremendous improvement in plundering and rape of the nature. Brave PR !

Any way Mkini and MInsider are no better than MSM when it comes to reporting impartially. Anyone with a functioning brain can see that. However, PR cheerleaders such as yourself will believe anything written by anyone as long as it agrees with your political views.

Indians Parliamentarians in Malaysia are a species that is to be proud of, Indian from PR that is. Why did BN Indians not speak to Hindraf? Because the masses would reward them with slippers and shoes? Perhaps you had forgotten what the President of MIC was rewarded with during his visit to Prai?

Progress of PR states can clearly be seen with lesser rascists remarks, the continued destabilising act by BN yet they continue to perform under the most difficult circumstances and it is admirable that they are able to do so. 25. Whether you like it or not HINDRAF has brought benefit to the indians and the MIC (leaders).Do you think the racelist UMNO will bother to solve at least some of the indian promblems if not all if hindraf glavanise the indian movemennt to vote against BN in the last GE.More bussiness loans ,permits are given to indians.but is it enough?Giving&Reserving shares for indian is OK but what is the point when most of them cannot afford to buy it.Shares and self financing loan for this share should be provided.Loans paid by dividends from this share to help the poor indians. It is pity MIC is claiming credit for this…
