To be honest, most of us do discuss how the devices affecting us..some of us feel dizziness and some feel headaches, especially those area near signal-boosted wifi antenna (amplifier). But again, these powerful devices are to transmit data within building to building and should be ‘away’ from offices, residential areas. What my concerns is the installation plan and study has been carried out. There are many challenges for this project. 1. A well-covered wifi zoning needs more than 1 Access Point (AP) and careful planning. Normally, network engineers need to get a detail analysis and studies over the area, how many estimated user per AP for now and future. Poorly wifi design will cause user feel slowness or intermittence connection (due to overloaded AP). Have they done the evaluation? What is the maintenance contract with State and provider? 2.Unless the backbone is using cable. Throughput (actual speed) of point to point/multi point is not very high and stable, (interference such trees, buildings and even human bodies etc.) If using wifi/wimax as backbone… which buildings/location they gonna mount the antennas? How many outdoor nodes? How many antenna tower they will build near residential building. Will you allow if they mount powerful wifi dishes at your rooftop? 3.What about security?. Wifi’s security is no way compatible to cable. Remember, this is an open network, anyone can sniff your data packet. Is the company has social-responsibility over public security? Can we sue the service provider for not taking enough security precautions over the security? Are they willing to upgrade all their infrastructure if new vulnerability found to hack wifi and wimax?? (Read further on old technology WEP. Any script kiddy can hack your wep-key router in less than 20mins (search youtube). This is an old encryption method, but scan around the wifi signals now, I would say more than 90% around Penang still using WEP) Every technology has good and bad, is just how we implement it. For this project I strongly feel uncomfortable because everything is merely announcement, press statements. Where is CAT value for the project? Any company other than P1 tender for this project? Don't forget our fluorescent lamp, meteors, cosmos, in-wall wiring are already emitting RF. It is a pity. Let us consumers not be stepped upon by producers too much. Many consumer goods are invented incorporating innovations that have not been tested on humans before for their long-term effect.

So we rightfully should be skeptical about things like wireless technology and mobile phone radiowaves.

These things can affect our biological bodies at the celular/ionic level. It may have something to do with things like free radicals.

It is an anomaly of this age and time that we are bombarded by so many consumer goods by corporations that are trying to make profits that the profit imperative supercedes concerns of health and so on.

It is a pity.

General rule of thumb is keep 200m metres away from a microwave mobile phone pole and 2 metres away from a microwave oven when using it. If using a handphone dont use it for more then 2 minutes. This is the most obvious effect of handphone radiation affecting the bio-electrical signals in the body. WiFi and handphones all use radiation as signal carrier. But, there are already so many telcos towers around, I do not think that would make much difference as I believe what the PenGov proposed is for certain selected areas (not for residential areas), why worry so much, this is investors & tourists friendly initiatives which took (or never take) the previous gomen to implement it, and it only take less then a year (for current gomen) to put it into plan and hope it will roll out as claimed. Looking forward for that. Its always good that we have watchdog like CAP to voice the concern.
