The PDC Heritage Hotel site is a 1.4ha seafront site, adjacent to the 124-year-old Eastern and Oriental (E&O) Hotel along Lebuh Farqhuar. The minutes of exco revealed that the state legal advisers had reminded LGE that the site is a foreshore land that under the National Land Code proviso, it can not be converted from leasehold to freehold status. What is the special circumstances that LGE referred to in justifying the land conversion? LGE justified the conversion by citing the project as neglected and in an “abandoned” state. That YTI agree to bear the cost of converting PDC’s equity from 49 per cent to 50 per cent. That YTI is no longer the major shareholder. That PDC has a majority share now. This is the probably the most lame excuse given by LGE in a land (deal) that robbed Penangites of their rights to a foreshore land. How can PDC be a majority shareholder when both parties are having 50% equity? This project is not even go thru' open tender. LGE's desperation for DEVELOPMENT has drive him to mislead the people that the conversion is for the benefit of Penangites. What is so big deal for YTL H&P to pay the full cost of equity conversion? If LGE want to use the declassified minutes to divert the attention of Penangites he probably make the most serious mistake in his political career! This only prove that LGE will go all the length to get "Penang developed" even if it means Penangites going to lose out in the end. Those @#$ businesses will occupy it with the goods they sell thereby forcing pedestrians to walk on the roadside which very dangerous i.e. danger from traffic and snatch thieves. Unfortunately, sometime the guideline has been selectively implemented to the wimp and fancy of our politicians when the politician think the people are not sharp enough to detect the discrepancy.
