Meat eating is not as simple as swallowing a piece of meat. It’s proven that livestock farming has become one of the main causes of global warming which resulting in the melting of ice caps, sea level rises, weather changes which then lead to eco-disasters such as land slides, mud slides, storms, floods, tsunami, typhoon, hurricane, earthquake etc. These are happening more frequently than ever. Though the movie 2012 is a bit dramatic and the information is a bit outdated, but it’s not all fiction. There are some truths in it.

The consequence of livestock farming:-

1) Clearing of huge size forest land (FAO 2006 report – 70% of Amazon rainforest deforestation is due to livestock production)
2) Water pollution
3) Produces more greenhouse gases than worldwide transportation combined. The greenhouse gases that trap the heat thus worsening the global warming crisis
• Animals releases methane gas which has an ability to trap heat almost 21 times more effectively than carbon dioxide
• generates 65% of human-caused nitrous oxide (296 times as warming as co2)
• and not forgetting animals in the livestock farm also breath out co2 like human beings ~what a burden in addition to increasing human population!);
4) Excessive fuel consumption & resources for transportation and storage of meat products.
5) Grains used to feed animals in turn to feed human beings are enough to reverse world hunger
6) Heavy use of chemical in livestock feed is detrimental to human health, thus increase nation medical cost.
7) Over fishing ~ affecting marine eco-system.
Many other harmful effect on environment, health and financial cost.
9) All of the above are affecting the eco-system of this planet.

This is a cyber age, the above information with reliable reports can be easily found by surfing through the internet. Today the choice of a plant-based diet has nothing to do with religious belief; it is to save ourselves from global warming crisis. Well, may be it still has got something to do with our religious belief, is it not that all religions are telling us not to do anything that will harm others?

Is it worth to continue supporting a diet habit that is not sustainable and eventually harming ourselves and others, including our loved ones? It definitely takes a lot of wisdom, compassion and courage to make changes, and lastly not forgetting this planet is our only home. Without a healthy planet, tons of meat will become meaningless to everyone.

Simply put it.
It means for the Christians and the Jews (and those who believe in the old testament Bible), God gave Noah and his descendants the right to have all animals food. So God fearing Christians should be free of guilt if they consume meat. I believe that should include Brother Anil. No?

It is only during the time of Moses that God specifically made a covenant with the descendants of the house of Jacob (ie. the early day Israelites or broadly, the present day Jews) which later included the prohibition to consume unclean food. (Exodus 19:3 onwards)
