Irene Fernandez passed away today from heart failure at the age of 67. Details of the wake and funeral service below.

Irene Fernandez

In James 5:4, it is written: “Can you hear crying out against you the wages which you kept back from the labourers mowing your fields? The cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord Sabaoth.”

Irene Fernandez too heard the cries of the migrant workers and the oppressed and responded unequivocally. The best way we can pay tribute to her to support the cause of migrant workers’ rights and the larger struggle for social justice.

Please add your tributes and thoughts below.

  1. Irene, you have it in your soul: 1st class human dignity full of empathy without the pomps or trumpeting.
May The Lord welcome you home in a place full of genuine love.
    RIP, Irene Fernandez.

  2. Sadly , her works are not appreciated by the government.
Migrant workers are humans too and deserves protection.
Her works are far greater and more meaningful than any of the the current living bunch of Datos, Tan Sris and Tuns combine together.
    Irene , Thank You

  3. Irene, you fought a good fight and did what you do best, made a difference to the many lives you have touched, your contribution enormous, thank YOU! RIP Irene.

  4. How true it is that only the good dies young ! No doubt that people like the egregious Mahathir does not believe in that and please one of his supporters tell him that. Or may be he is kept alive just to see the destruction of his creation before being taken away to see that none of the white elephants he built are there !

    • He may be kept alive+awake by social awakening (long enough to suffer) to see more dirts coming out of his Helang closets.
No wonder his recent fear+minus good night sleep+nightmare of the Internet of exposing details of ill doings of the guilty. No doctor can do a better job of exposing a disease many already know in our midst.

  5. She is an unsung hero of Malaysia. She fought a good fight till her last day and will be given a VVIP reception where she is going and those who were against her would be punished in due time. R.I.P as we Malaysians will remember you as along as we live.

  6. Irene, we’ll miss you and so will the thousands of migrant and domestic workers for whose rights you stood up so bravely. All our condolences and sympathy to your family. May you have inspired lots of young Malaysians to carry on with your work.

  7. Eternal rest grant unto her soul, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace. Rest now. You have run the race and you have reached the finishing line.
