Birthday boy Nizar receives a basket of pomelo

Kinta Kid reports from the Democracy Tree in Ipoh:

A year ago today the new government of Perak was sworn in. Coincidentally it was also the birthday of “MB yang sah” Nizar Jamaluddin. Today, I received an sms at around 5.00pm about a birthday party for Nizar and it was to be held under Pokok Demokrasi at 6.00pm. Where else!

The PR team turns one today and the situation today has completely changed compared to the previous 50-odd years. For his birthday, Nizar was presented with a pomelo. (The pomelo is a fruit identified with Ipoh. It is segmented inside but is juicy and refreshing and its outer appearance is packaged well with a smooth and rounded exterior.)

Then there was a a basket of red eggs, yet another symbol of a birthday – usually presented during a child’s full moon (one-month-old birthday). Symbolic yes, and something that the rakyat of Ipoh can identify with.

For Nizar, after 52 years, he wants to ensure the “rule of law is maintained in Perak”  – a rule which “recognises the separation of powers as enshrined in the constitution”.

The crowd in attendance applauded heartily.

    Hmm, are those 8) brightly coloured painted red eggs chicken eggs or duck eggs or some other sort of eggs? And what’s that tasty bit on the side which looks like a rather :D large fish on a big dish?

  3. DEAR ANIL

    I remember it was 1970. The town Council decided to cut a tree
    at the corner of a junction and it was done.

    the very next day, there was a motor cycle accident and two
    young boys died on the spot.

    People said that because the tree was cut, the accident took
    place. It is up to you to believe it or not.

    Strange things do happen. If anyone cuts the DEMOCRACY TREE in
    Ipoh, the fate may befall on him/her or the Political Party
    concerned.

  4. Sorry I forgot to mention the name of the town. It was

    Teluk Anson, now Teluk Intan where I was the Town Council

    Secretary for 10 years.

  5. I was observing the clowing of events at the Putra centre recently.
    It was clear that they are upto ‘something’ sinister, The RAKYAT must be careful not to fall a trap. See the how the no.1 man was
    shouting at the end of the event. And the CRIS is still there.
    Reminding the RAKYAT that it will be used at the appropriate time.
    If you look at the RAMAYANA story in India, RAMAN also carries his
    keris around threatening the ordinary poor people.

    What the party in power needs is to gain the confidence of the RAKYAT RATHAR THAN CARRYING AROUND AND WEILDING THE KERIS. IT
    won’d to anymore in the 21lst centry.

    Look at the Federal Constitution; it has been mutilated by 50
    amendments in 50 years. We have to re-look at the Fed Con. It
    was NOT drafted by the MALAYANS/MALAYSIANS. It was drafted by
    Foreigners – all the members of the REID COMMISSION were
    foreigners; the time has now come for the local Constitutioal
    experts to sit down to disucss our major probelms and current issues;

    I just returned from Bangalore after attending the All India Criminology Conference in Bangalore. There I was able to get a copoy of “THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA – REVIEW AND ASSESSMEN” BY dR. SUBHASH c. KASHYAP –

    i QUOTE Dr Subhash:

    “On completion of fifty years of the working of the Constitution, it was considered appropriate to take stock of its success and failures. On 23 February, 2000, the President of India, Shri K.R. Narayanan appointed the NATIONAL COMMISSION TO REVIEW THE WORKING OF THE CONSTITUTION (also referred to as the Constitutional Commission.)

    The setting up of the high level 11-member Commission was a unique example of sustained civil society pressure (1990-2000), successfully impacting policy makers and leading to concrete action.

    REPORT OF THE COMMISSION:

    1. Fundamental Rights. Some of the positive and welcome recommendations in regard to Fundamental Rights of

    (1) freedom of the press and other media;
    (ii) freedom of information;
    (iii)defence of justificiation by truth in contempt of court cases;
    (iv) right to rural wage employment for a niminum of 80 days in a year;
    (v) right to reasonably speedy and effective justice;
    (iv)right to safe drinking water, preventin of pollution, and (vii)
    right to free education for all children upto the age of 14.”"

    These are the the similar issues we also face in Malaysia; rather
    than finding solution to all these life threatening issues, they
    are waving the keris; this is not the way for peace but war.

    Let them think clearly and trust we take the initiative
    to form a CONSTITIONAL COMMMISSION TO RETHINK AND REDRAFT FOR THE
    PEOPLE AND THE RAKYAT’S CONSENT BEFORE PASSING THE NEW CONSTITION.

    kuala lumpur.
