This sort of action is not going to enhance the credibility of the administration.

  1. “Dr Michael Jeyakumar said last night that such heavy handed police action was unnecessary as they only had to request S. Arutchelvan to present himself to the police station”?

No, Dr. Jeya, there are other considerations such as planning the operasi (work), obertaim, travel claims, more justification for vehicles, and stats (KPI).

  2. Police arrested Adam Adli Abdul Halim in downtown Kuala Lumpur today after the student activist gave a speech at a protest in support of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in front of the Sogo department store, the scene of many such protests 17 years ago.

  3. Dr Michael Jeyakumar said last night that such “heavy handed” police action was unnecessary as they only had to request S. Arutchelvan to present himself to the police station to explain his allegedly seditious remarks. The jailing Arul overnight was unnecessary as he and PSM were willing to cooperate with police investigations.

He wrote in a statement, on behalf of the PSM central committee:
“Surely the time of the 15 police officers could have been better utilised to combat crime. The police are clearly attempting to intimidate the public by using the Sedition Act – an act formulated by our colonial rulers to suppress the freedom of speech and opinion. They are attempting to clamp down on any criticism of the Barisan Nasional administration,”
