Gerakan secretary-general Chia Kwang Chye has some “friendly advice” for party stalwart Toh Kin Woon (pic): Don’t attend anymore events organised by PKR. This was reported in the Kwong Wah Chinese-language newspaper today.

Kin Woon was among the crowd of between 10,000 and 20,000 at Anwar’s ceramah in Permatang Pauh on Saturday night (9 Aug).

When asked whether any further action would be taken against Kin Woon, Kwang Chye said no, but he hoped that Kin Woon would not take part in any further events organised by the PKR.

A former state executive councillor in the previous Barisan Nasional-led Penang state government, Kin Woon is widely respected for his progressive, independent views. He did not defend his Penang state assembly seat of Machang Bubok in the 8 March general election, indicating his desire to step down from active politics.

He is now chairman of the Penang-based Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute.

  1. It has to be friendly advice now. It used to be this consequence and that consequence, show cause letters and other forms of “whips”.

And we have another piece of good news this morning as 150 Umno members join PKR.

Similar to one who displays unsportsman like behaviour in a badminton game. You can play by yourself.

Why automatically assume that this is good news?

  4. Gerakan secretary general
    Oh still whipping the cane!
    He should go and listen
    Don’t hide in a badge

I met him a couple of times
Way back when I was in Penang
When he was just making his waves
    In Gerakan………………..

    Now times changed
He forgot how he was then
    When one forgets his root
    This is why party failed

Giving advice or show cause letter
This isn’t the way forward to any party
Every member must have legal rights
To go where he pleases without hindrances

So party rules shouldn’t hammer the nails
On party members to attend political seminars
Of different party platforms and interests
One must learn what the others are doing
It isn’t necessary one has to agree……….

In the work place we have many political views
These workers and executives have their own affiliations
So is the company going to take action for different taste?
    I don’t think so; I never did when I held the cane………..

Let party members go and attend
Seminars of faiths or political gatherings
This is called democracy choices one can go
It is to understand the feel of the ground
The mood and the perception of the crowd
Party leaders of any group fail to recognize
This is why the party will fail eventually

  8. UMNO/BN owes a company rm 218 million.This is an atronomical sum
spent during the 2004 General Election!! Divide that to each parliamentary constituency and that is nearly a million ringgit spent on election parahenelias alone.Has not the UMNO/BN contravened with election laws?
What say you Datuk Rashid of Election Commission? One can deduce easily that UMNO/BN candidates spent well over a million
each during the last General Election!!

  9. Hey you Gerakan “leaders” out there

You failed the people miserably! You abused the powers we entrusted in you. Finally, we had enough of your nonsense and that is why we voted you out. Yes out. And nowadays judging by your comments in the media, you are outstandingly proving yourselves to be more and more irrelevant.

Each time I see your pictures in the media, I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry. The kids in my class prefer to laugh at such disgustingly cheap and shameful antics to get attention. Boy, let me assure you that you guys are really making history in the minds of this new generation of boys and girls!

Sometimes, I think Wong Chun Wai is not doing such a bad job afterall — he is helping you @@@ look like @@@ that you are!

Here’s a friendly advice via a friendly medium: Shut up if you have no sincerity in helping the people of Penang! Now that you have time and money on your hands(besides your emergency meetings that is), pay up your debts — go and serve the grassroots who once gave you the votes.

Ya la, when they voted for you, you were supposed to serve them, not sodomise them. There’s always a silver lining — serve the people well, and, if the present government screws up, you are back in business again.

I wonder — how does one give friendly advice when one is no longer on the throne? You want to get ditched izzit?

  10. Kin Woon certainly doesn’t need any advice from the likes of Kwang Chye and others from the discredited Gerakan. Even when he was in the State Exco Kin Woon always spoke his mind on issues which were close to his heart. He is one politician who is sincere and principled and of outstanding character. He always stands by his friends many of whom come from all sectors of society.

Otherwise all the advice given will be done for
Make sure when advice is given you really care for

  13. I wish to say this to Kwang Chye!

    First thing 1st.

When you need to decide between Party and Individual, take party if individual is idolizing.

When you need to decide between Rakyat and Party, don’t even think. Stick to Rakyat right away.

Now we are talking about choosing between Gerakan and Rakyat. Kin Woon has made his right choice. When is your turn?

  14. I have an idea, Have we ever acoounted the number of politicians, bussiness people, governmnet servants with respect to the population. Did we ever realise that government servants for their apple polishing attitude will “Kao Tao” to the politicians, bussiness people for their money face will bribe the politicians, politicians to convince the people will use the jounalist or media.

The ratio of all these people, as to the voters, combined are so small than, why is the public, making the majority being fooled by this minority. My suggestion is if the political agenda of a party does not suite, or is lopsided or anti racialistic, of the masses thoughts, THROW THE PARTY OUT, like what happen to Sharizat, Samy Vellu, Palanivellu and so forth, but this time throw the whole party out, coz they have the same wavelength of thinking, if you keep a percentage of the BN people, their influence will still be there so get rid of the the virus, to cure the ilness.

  16. That the Gerakan has again fallen in line with the bidding of their Masters, UMNO shows the complete absence of integrity, andresponsibility to the Rakyat they are supposed to serve.
The BN-specifically UMNo havs always behaved in a typical “Anging dalam Kandang” or in plain English, ‘DOG IN THE MANGER’ way everytime they are defeated in past elections. Gy this, I am referring to the fact that constiuencies who have been won by Opposition parties in the past are “punished” by the BN as their elected MP/ADUN and thus the rakyat are left out in the cold by the ruling BN as a lesson for these people voting for the Opposition. The only difference this time is that the UMNO/BN has widened the scope of punishment by ignoring or denying the rights of the Rakyat in non BN, PR States. This mentality tells us a lot about the low life who sit in power in the BN.
The fact of the matter is that the Rakyat have every right to elect whichever person or party to the positions in the State or the Parliament. The BN by virtue of their majority in the Parliament have retained the right to admisnter the country. HOWEVER, that does not give them the right to punish the states that have rejected them. By their very high handed and unparliamentary act, the BN has also punished those in the Opposition states that have voted them – F****** stupid if I may say.
Sincew the BN has chosen to “put these states in “cold storage’ as punishment, they should realise the fact that they have given the people of these states to consider not paying their taxes – after all the revenue paid by the Rakyat should be used for the rakyat irrespective of their choice of ruling party.
What is even more troubling is the fact that the BN has put ALL CIVIL SERVANTS as well as the members of the Police, Armed Forces in a position that may force these people to decide on their loyalty. Put bluntly, the BN is forcing All government servants to “choose sides” We have had reports of the Penang State Govt for example not receiving funds due from the government in Tourism activities such as the recent Dragon Boat event and many other instances. Opposition states are not invited to meetings with regard to the next SUKMA program, Education authorities (school heads etc) are instructed not to co-operate with the respective state governments. These kinds of retaliation is sheer madness and it would seem that we are now governed by a power mad organization who would not care a damn if the Rakyat are indisposed or if the rakyat are forced to choose between the “Masters” or face problems when they elect the opposition.
The sad fact of the matter is that our children, the young and impressionable are being given a lesson of why they have to play master and slave and that it is alright that there is a separation between the Bumiputeras (it’s alrright if this includes Bumiputera chelups like citizens or PR through a short cut method) and the non- Bumis. Th past 4 months has seen a very dangerous development in the country as there seems to be a complete disregard for reconciliation after the past bruising Elections and we seem to see the reckless push towards punishment and retaliation without any thought or concern that the action of the BN is pushing the nation to a dangerous confrontation.
The component parties of the BN are unfortunately too engrossed in rebuilding themselves and positioning themselves within the BN and have as usual kept both thir eyes tightly shut while their UMNO colleagues create havoc. The fact is that the BN component parties have shown that they have a total lack of recognition of their responsibility not just to their race but more importantly to contribute to keeping the UMNO in touch with reality – that their elected position does not mean that they cando as they wish.
Dr Toh Kin Woon has always been consistent in upholding his responsibilities to the People of Penang irrespective of rac and I have noted that he has always been civil and friendly with opposition party members immediately after each election. That, Mr Chia Kwang Chye is the Hallmark of a responsible and GOOD politician. You and your cohorts in Gerakan and other parties, should learn from this gentleman instead of trying to win cookie points from your ‘masters’ by telling Dr Toh off. Go on behaving as you do and lets see if there will be a Gerakan in 2013. The fact is that the former Penang government has screwed up the development achieved by Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu and we, the Penang rakyat have had enough of your kind of politics.
Be advised that should the BN continue to “squeeze” the people of Penang, they will find that twe will all stand by the PR to solve all the problems and s*** left by that ——- who sits by the UMNO table to pick up the bones.

  18. Maybe Toh Kin Woon went to the PKR ceramah to size up the mood and atmosphere of reformasi in Permatang Pauh, an indicator of the mood in the whole country. He must have left with the impression that BN is a sinking ship and Gerakan is sinking with it.

Face the facts, Gerakan isn’t going to recapture Penang within this generation. Without Penang, it either become an irrelevant party like PPP or leave the coalition to join PKR. Gerakan’s ideology isn’t so different from PKR’s. It has its roots in socialism and multi-racialism.

But joining BN for 40 years has corrupted and bastardized the party until it has forgotten its root ideology and become like another MCA, a stooge of Umno and practitioner of communal politics. Gerakan said it joined BN to be the conscience of BN. Has this happened? Is Gerakan still clutching the illusion that it can reform BN?

Gerakan now stands at the cross roads – to continue to be part of a racist coalition and sink in the immoral cesspool of BN or re-discover its roots and take a bold step forward. Maybe Gerakan’s leaders are still hunkering after the gravy train of power and money. But with the loss of Penang, the gravy train has departed and Gerakan’s leaders are still shamelessly chasing after it.

  19. Gerakan is multi-racial and PKR is also multi-racial. there shouldn’t be any qualm if Gerakan members join PKR. many have done so. just like a fish, only the head remains, the body has left Gerakan and into PKRand DAP. we need changes. we need a strong PKR -stronger than PAS and DAP. of course a strong PR is what the people want. they just want a change. we can see this happening now. people are into PKR in droves. even this morning, over 655 have applied to join PKR in Permatang Pauh. this is a good sign for PR. spending RM218m on 2004 election is terribly disgusting. taxpayers’ money is gone to waste. Mercedes B for EXCO members and top politicians. Overseas holidays. what else? shopping by jetloads overseas and the list goes on. PR must be in power to stop all these wastages.

Ah Chye is no longer in the government and cabinet,so Dr Toh can actually ignore him.Ah Chye couldn’t even defend his Bukit Bendera seat which was won by someone who is 30 years younger than him.Ah Chye ah,if I were you,I would start study Chinese (though you are Chinese ) so that you could mingle with your fellow Chinese kaki as you have nothing much to do.Leave Dr Toh alone to do whatever he deems fit since he is wiser than you.

  25. Agreed Devan,

The country has gone to the dogs, with such stupid, pathetic leaders like Badawi,Najib,Syed Albar,Hishamuddin…we are fast depreciating in the South-East Asian economy. We don’t have capable and smart enough leaders to carry the nation forward. The BN regime is full of S-holes who are incapable to run even their own house.Mis-management is the order of the day, this is happening for the past 30 years, and its more rampant now.

The nation has been robbed and the wealth siphoned off… We need a new government in the mould of Pakatan Rakyat. The Permatang Pauh people must ensure the BN candidate losses his/her deposit in the by-election.

Lets hope we have a new government by October 2008!!!.
