The Cabinet has ordered the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) to reinstate access to all blocked websites including Malaysia Today, according to The Star online. It quoted Energy, Water and Communications Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor.

SKMM had instructed  ISPs to block Malaysia Today in August.

Remember how Khairy later came out openly to oppose the ban?

And remember, I suggested that he whisper into his father-in-law’s ear asking him to lift the ban. I wonder if he did just that. :)

Well, at least they have “seen the light”. Anyway, the ban was a complete flop, wasn’t it – what with the mirror sites and alternative URLs widely circulated.

  1. If there’s no Malaysia for today
How can there be a Malaysia for tomorrow?
Let’s help make Malaysia everyday here to stay
So that we can have happiness instead of any sorrow

  3. Well at last common sense prevails among some government leaders.

It’s the right thing to do; and we must congratulate the individual(s) who made this happened.

What I want to see next is for them to drop the charges levelled against Raja Petra; and forget about other possible actions against him, such as the ISA.

These people in power must realize that there are different views on all issues; and they must learn to respect these differences.

  5. I wonder if there weren’t also some discrete concerned queries from the MSC’s foreign investors.
They don’t care about local politics, they’re mainly interested in their ROIC, but the government’s keeping to its Multimedia Bill of Guarantees is a concern.

  6. OK finally the cabinets realize something is wrong somewhere. The blocking of MT has far reaching implications to the nation industry in everything brother. But I am still wondering who is the guy behind this blocking of MT. Don’t you thing someone out there has the secret?

  7. i think the only reason they need to lift the ban on MT is to make their court cases against Pete possible.

  8. Block or unblock doesn’t matter to me. That’s why lifting ban to safe ‘some’ goodwill left, if any.

    Keep going, RPK.

  9. Let us not forget that the MCMC went against the Bill of Guarantees.

And I do not recall anybody – not MCMC CEO Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, the person most accountable for the blockade, not assorted ministers / dep. ministers, not the PM, nobody – ever apologising for the breach. No one even admitted that their action was wrong.

Apa ni? Guarantee in black and white, breach blatantly, issue various excuses in spite of the iron-clad provision in Section 3 of the Communications and Multimedia Act viz:

Nothing in this Act shall be construed as
permitting the censorship of the Internet.

    and then quietly re-instating access.

Would it be wrong to assume that no one has been censured over the breach of the Bill of Guarantees?

Has any big IT investor already changed its mind about pumping in millions/billions into some project in the MSC / Malaysia as a result of the callous disregard for the Bill of Guarantee on the part of the MCMC?

  10. RPK suspected something fishy about this sudden pullback by cabinet.

He might be right and I believe he will come out with something new in his blog.

Anyway, the Botak Minister has threatened to use ISA against RPK and the sleepy PeeAM also said that ISA could be used against those who stir up racial sentiments in Bolehland.

These are desperate acts of those struggling to cling on to power in the … racist party.

The real culprits are from their own party, including the sly fox…

Who else are so arrogant and defiant, without showing any sign of remorse?

Looks like the comments of Deputy IGP and the General are pointing towards these goons and racists…

Well, Deputy IGP, don’t issue warnings to the innocent ones, and please do arrest those evil power brokers who create all these troubles and upsetting the racial harmony in Bolehland.

  11. Anonymous said…

In 2004 GE11, the Malaysian Voters have had given the PeeM AAB 90% of the seats in Parliament with a Mandate of almost full support but what had he done to Malaysia, with his arrogance, he tried to oppress & betray the Rakyats’ trust in him and mismanage the Government and suppressed the MSM News and spun lies and deceits. What could PeeM AAB ever do anything to Ahmad Ismail BUT A SLAP ON THE HAND OF A MERE 3 YEARS SUSPENSION??? …S.

Light-up the Candles now and but justice for all ISA detainees come the new dawn of Malaysia soon.

Where is the justice & freedom of expression because all our MSM News are suppressed or spun, where have the Truth and Merdeka gone to, perhaps the goons under BN Government, ok??? Malaysia is going backwards after 51 years instead of going forward under the Racist UMNO…

What independence is there when there is none but a Police State in the making and where is the Justice for Altantuya and those in the ISA detention without trial or rights of appeal to seek natural justice???

The UMNO Government is afraid that more cans of worms will be spilled by RPK and therefore they banned his blogsite which is a futile attempt to block information in this IT age, of course this is because of this Present Moronic Government is … dirty therefore on the pretext of helping the Rakyats, they could extract… more money from the Budget Deficit and with most of the Deficit Money coming from Petronas. Look for example at the Crystal Mosque’s and Mariner Club’s Fiasco in Terengganu’s Billions in Wang Ehsan, Billions had been lost as white elephants. The cancellation of the Johore Scenic Bridge, Penang Second Bridge and LRT Projects at the whims and fancies of the Flip Flop, Incompetent and Sleeping PeeM at the last minutes is wasting Multi Millions Ringgits in Public Funds had shown proof of the PeeM’s mismanagement of the Government and wastage of the Public Financial Resources and all these wasted funds could not be salvaged to aid and assist the Malaysian Poor Citizens of all races. If Malaysia still keep him in power it will further damage and erode the Wealth of our Nation and our National Wealth could be decimated in no time.
The same could happen to all the empty promises of aid and help to the Rakyats these could all be lip service only unless it is monitored by reputable NGOs. On the irreversible Food Prices inflation, the unnecessary Moronic previous price hike on Petrol & Diesel had caused great permanent damage to the Food Price Structure and even if the price cut to Petrol and Diesel revert to their original prices prior to their hike, it will not revert the Food prices back to their original state and only the PeeM is to be solely blamed for his unwarranted Fuel Price Hike. His 2009 budget did not help the Rakyats’ quelled their immediate hardship suffered nor did that help them solve their Transport Problems immediately with multiple schemes but none available immediately with all the empty rhetorics but nothing concrete that could solve their immediate problems after years of neglect from this incompetent sleeping PeeM. As it is he is still sleeping and still unaware of what the 27 Million Rakyats wanted, needed and aspired to have coming soon??? THROW THEM OUT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, Come Sept 16, 2008 send them home to sleep forever he is no longer needed.

  12. arifabdull,

You got the point. The fact is that, RPK no more own MT when they decided to block it. MT is in fact, dead. What we access now iis the son of MT.

  14. Ok, so the government has come to its senses. Great. Now that the website has been unblocked, we can all visit it again. Yahoo!

Err… wait a minute, we were always able to visit Malaysia today except for a hiccup of couple of hours.

More importantly, why has the ban been lifted?

    - The government has realised the error of its ways and is repentant?
    - All the accusations it made of sleaze and slurs appearing on this site are unwarranted?
    - It is not seditious?
    - RPK will not therefore be brought to book since there is no case to answer?
    - Or that the government had miscalculated terribly and acted foolishly in its typical knee jerk reaction and ended up with egg on its face? And this is merely damage control?
