While the right to peaceful assembly of every one (whether or not singing the national anthem) must be defended, that the police would go so low to attack citizens singing the anthem means that they know no limit. They wont even show respect to national symbols. In the past, citizens knew that they could sing the national anthem both to express their patriotism and to negotiate a dignified exit. Hence, the police attack of the national anthem (not only those singing it) should be highlighted. Some heads in the police force must roll. Civil society and ordinary citizens should come out strongly to force the authority to take responsibility of the fiasco. In the long run, civil society should actively compete with the state in embracing such national symbols. We should take up the language of patriotism but speak it with a liberal soul, rather than giving it to the jingoists. We must reclaim Malaysia as a free nation, beginning by reclaiming our national symbols and exposing the regime's hypocrisy on them. Change is inevitable, its happening right here, right now! Whatever course the rakyat choose to take next, will determine if we remain stagnant or progress as one human race. While my travelling mates and I were covering the Ipoh Vigil, our hearts were beating for PJ Vigil as early as 7.30pm. Our handphone were literary filled by breaking news every 5 to 10 mins.Ever since then, smses will exchanged in a furious pace, back and forth. (All the 4 W's were often used. Who? Where? When? Why? and now trying to anwwer the What? What's all these have to come out of it? What was it the police trying to proof? What was it that the rakyat is all about?- One can only answer within oneself.)Somethings brewing alright but never in my wildest imagination could have comprehend whats to followed (History now). "I WILL NOT BE COWED!" I just like to share with you these sms: Received: 10.20pm "Im detained" 10.24pm "Hear d siren" 11.04pm "Ronnie is here to help" 1.31am "Im angry by those who were handcuffed n manhandled just now I WILL NOT BE COWED!" many more other smses follows.... "I WILL NOT BE COWED!" In the midst of all this "uncertainty and adversity" something Pure is bound to be born. We the the 6th and 7th generation Malaysians both malays and non-malays are asking for a fair go. We want a Government that treats every Malaysian fairly and with compassion. We are asking for every Malaysian malay and non-malay to share in our country's enormous wealth. History is being made! We Malaysians are coming of age finally.
