I have seen no reason to change my point of view about the suspension of Makkal Osai over their improper use of Jesus' image. While there is some likelihood that the suspension may be partially or even wholly for motives which are not that evident, and which I may not agree with, I stand by my opinion that the paper should be punished despite their apology. The editor should have known better. That their suspension may not be an equal application of justice/punishment both in this instance, and when compared to the Prophet Mohd cartoon case, including NST and TV3 being let off, also does not detract from the fact that Makkal Osai deserved to be rapped hard on the knuckles. That Makkal Osai was a newspaper which had served a 4th estate function is a mitigating factor; it does not absolve them of the wrong-doing, and negate the need for the punishment. He did not just preach these virtues but lived and even died by them. Would He have wanted to punish the perpetrators of this irresponsible incidence further despite their repentance?The suspension of the daily would result in a hundred workers losing their livelihood . It is sad, that these days even the name of God and His prophets are being manipulated by certain individuals for political gains. People are willing to do anything just to gain power and glory.
