Perhaps those of other faiths need to learn to be a little more aggressive in seeing to it that their rights are not ignored. There was an interesting study done recently that showed that as the Muslim population grows in a country the level of intolerance of other religions and demands for accomodation of theirs increases. The study examined various countries from around the world. Perhaps this is starting to happen here. It continues to amaze me how everyone seems to cave in to the demands of followers of Islam. We have to educate our flock about conversion as this conversion is unlike any other conversions where you have the freedom to change anytime. Once converted, you lose all your freedom to choose. Like Paul, I am not an Islam hater. I have close relationship with my muslim friends. It is only the fear of losing my choice to choose after conversion that makes me stay away from that religion. Not from the text written and approved by any Muslim authority. But one that is authored by yourselves. Of course it has to be honest and devoid of rhetoric, falsehoods and exaggerations. We also ought to educate our own of what happens when one converts to Islam and the consequences of it. Not just that you are checking into Hotel California, but also the impact on the converts estate upon his death. (It has always been a wonder to me, what if a son has converted to Islam and the father a non dies intestate. Does the son continue to remain a son entitled to the decease's estate under intestacy rules? I'd advise those in such circumstances to write their wills like I know of one case where the converted son, who came around visiting his father and making friends once again, was completely left out by the father in his will, the others got more of course. Obviously he was quite unhappy. I wonder why though)! And we better know what is that one great big difference between your own religion and that of Islam. To me at least it is quite simply this, and this is what I have tried to inculcate in my children's minds. That God's greatest gift to them is free will. Obviously they have the free will to convert to Islam. But that is when they loose that gift forever. For those of you who think I am an Islam hater. I beg to differ. I respect the right of anyone to practice whatever it is they believe in. And that is why I am able to have a number of Muslim friends. And I get along with them very well and we do have a lot of good times together as friends usually do. I dont know the details of the grieviences but in Islam there are provisions for a convert towards his/her non-muslim family members. For example, in inheretance, e.g. one can bequeath up to one-third of one's estate to non-Muslims. I'm sure reputable Muslim scholars can elaborate on more examples. So, a responsible convert would continue to provide for his ex-wife, his parents etc. This forum is similar to the one which was held a couple of years ago denouncing poligyny. A daughter of an irresponsible polygynist father was called to relate her experience (presumably bad). Im no fan of polygyny, but any polygyny sympathiser can produce ten daughters of irresponsible monogynist fathers for every one daughter of an irresponsible polygynist father. So the key word is "irresponsible". But the Bar Council chose to highlight the "conversion to Islam" as the title of the forum. There are so many responsible Muslim converts that I can count as in-laws, friends and acquiantances. They care for their non-Muslim parents and siblings by being responsible human beings.And in many cases, their parents/siblings later on chose Islam as their faith. Why didnt Bar Council choose these people and ask them to relate their stories in a "Conversion to Islam" forum? Anil,
