Zaid’s OUT; M’sian Anti-Corruption Commission’s IN

I think I spoke too soon. This was what I wrote in my blog posting yesterday:

Anyway, contrast this with how Zaid Ibrahim’s presence at Pakatan events has been greeted by the folks in Umno.

And now they go and sack him.

Umno’s failure to implement meaningful reforms is complete. Well, you might ask, what about the reforms in the pipeline by March 2009?

I fell off my chair laughing when I read a source quoted on the front page of theSun commenting on the proposed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which is supposed to be more independent than the Anti-Corruption Agency:

“This means, the commissioner (the director-general of the agency) will enjoy unprecedented independence as enjoyed by the A-G, the auditor general and judges,” said a source.

Well, we all know how independent they are, right?

If we are lucky, the MACC might even be as ‘independent’ as Suhakam!  :)

This new Commission will have five committees breathing down its neck:

  • MACC Complaints Committee;
  • Anti-Corruption Advisory Committee
  • Special Committee on the MACC
  • Operations Review Panel
  • Corruption Consultation and Prevention Panel

Ai-yah, why so complicated one?

This sounds like a recipe for gridlock and tight monitoring. Why can’t we just have independent commissioners reporting to Parliament. What is so difficult?

  • Only in Malaysia the term “independence” carries a different meaning. Perhaps someone should tell the guys over at Oxford Dictionary Publishing Group (Malaysia Berhad) to review their dictionaries. :D

  • MACC?? Change to MAGIC better.

Yes, they know Zaid is a “liability” to them now. So “cut loss”. But the loss will be 1000 fold greater for them!

  • Or MAC Chicken, or Mc D’s better still. Known worldwide.

  • the sacking was widely expected….

  • umno is in denial mode but portray`s as stll in power.when kingdom falls all will be behind bars when annuar becomes the pm. a set of super pure ******** collection of the best s***.

  • As independent as the AG? as the auditor-general? as the judges? Oh oh.. here we go again, lipservice and white-washing…

  • We will truly believe it when BN-Umno is kicked out.

  • Anil, Anti-corruption is in, my foot! What can MACC do? It sounds very good and let us say this MACC is answerable to parliament. It sounds perfect and everybody will say it is very sound, nothing but sound and just sound only and remember empty vessels make the loudest sound. The Speakers and his two … will (probably) not allow the PR MPs to question MMACC when it really matters or due to “time constrain” the opposition will only be given five minutes to speak. Let PR win KT by-election first and put more pressure on the sinking BN. The people have enough lies from …UMNO…

  • Independent my foot-lah,change the government then only we talk about independent of the Anti corruption.Cakap siapa pun boleh,Bung Moktar pun boleh jadi PM-lah.

  • WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THE UMNO/BN GOVERNMENT LAH? THIS TYPE OF S***. ACTUALLY THEY HAVE BEEN S******* ON US FOR 51 YEARS. YOU GUYS GOING TO TAKE MORE S* FROM THEM. WAKE UP VOTE THEM OUT IN THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION

  • These extra creation of Commission will ensure job creation, no?
anyway, with so many layers of the same thing, reminds me of layers of onion. While others illustrate peeling off onion layers, they are actually putting it on. Its just makes one cry, doesn’t it?

  • Well, its no surprise to many. This is already foretold.

  • Dear Anil

Sorry, I have not written to you for sometime – Computer down.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission – I doubt very much that the
Commission be able to perform anything new, because every in the
    Administration is corrupted, e.g.

    The public servants,
    Ministries
    The Police,
    Immigration,
    Customs,
    State governments
    Local Authorites
    Statutory Bodies

and almost all departments of the public affairs is corrupted.

By changing the name from ACA to MACC, in my opinion, will not
make much difference or change. The MACC comes out of the fold
of the PUTRAJAYA – to the Centre of Kuala Lumpure where People
meet the MACC members and make complaints directly and confidentially.

Malaysia must have a body like NBI in India – Corporate
body OUTSIDE the government the government grip

Here is the web of the NBI – National Bureau of Investigation
which is independent – not a govt departments.

    Website:

    http://nbiindia.com/

There is a word in Tamil,i.e. they (the Administration) are already ’soaked’ in corruption and it is very hard to change
    their attitude or mentality.

    Hope for the best.

    Regards

    Hamid Ibrahim
