Corrupted leaders can bring down an organization/state. Clean but pro-development leaders also can bring down an organization/state. In contrast, a moderate leader can ensure status quo of the organization/state without being over ambitious and thus refuse to take risks that possibly can ruin the organization/state into irreversible damages. During the tenure of KTK as CM, I can observe his administration style of moderate leader that play safe all time to ensure no major events that can directly put penangites into deep trouble. But it is sad to say that current CM eagerly push Penang into concrete jungle by speeding the approval many property development projects without thoroughly assessing the environmental impact maybe occured. I wonder any conservation/green policy proposed by current CM. I can forsee Penang will be transformed into a city like Tokyo----highly sophiscated but full of concrete building without any tree. Maybe some plastic flowers and plants will do the trick. Currently I can't see the balance of development and conservation being carried by LGE administration. As western and developed nations learned the folly of their ways and are paying heavily for it we in asia are only beginning to repeat the follies of western nations of yesteryears. We destroy that which is old and traditional and is being drawn like moth to the seductive flickering lights of modernisation. We seem to have some warped sense of reality shaped and manipulated by the media and their agents of economic growth that what is new is good and what is old is bad. Recently someone was trying to sell to me an inductive cooker. He started spewing all the advantages of the cooker. I stopped him mid-way and told him of a study by a canadian doctor and has been repeated by others. The study used charcoal, gas,electric heater and microwave to boil water. The water, after cooling, were then used to water different plots of land that had been grown with vegetables. The plot that used charcoal had the highest growth and health. Those using electricity were no different from the control plot. In the case of micro-wave oven all the plants died a few days after the experiment started. All used iron pot. The experiment was repeated with clay pots, iron pots and aluminium pots. Clay pots came out the best and iron has no change but in the case of aluminium pots again all the plants died. In conclusion I told him that what is old need not be bad and what is new is not necessarily good. There is no clarity and there is no wisdom.
